Murvin (Pat) Patricks died at his home in Wailua Houselots on March 7, 2001, at the age of 76.
Born in Oregon on June 5, 1924, he moved to San Jose, Calif. at the age of 3 months. Pat was a combat wounded veteran of WWII with two Purple Hearts. He graduated from San Jose State, and worked for IBM until retirement. He moved to Lakeport, Calif. and owned a small Lakeport Resort. Pat and his wife Janice traveled to Kaua’i frequently, and were long time returnees at the Coco Palms resort before building a home on Kaua’i in 1983.
He was an avid rock collector, bowler, and bass fisherman, and belonged to Bassmasters club in San Jose for many years. He loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He always had a dog or two, and loved his animals and treated them as one of the family. He was known to all for his great sense of humor, and always enjoyed kidding around and entertaining everyone from casual acquaintances to long time friends.
He is survived by his wife Janice Patricks, to whom he was married for over 55 years. He has three daughters, Lonna Patricks of Lihu’e, Kathy Weldon of Lakeport, California, and Karri Stone of Wailua Homesteads. He has 10 grandchildren: Michael, Kristin, Dawn, Kevin, Lacey, Nicole, Stevi, Keeley, Jessy and Amy. He has 8 great-grandchildren: Nathan, Christopher, Brittany, Dakota, Alexis, Tiffanee, Preston, and Jennee. Other relatives include Wendell and Carolyn Johnson of Campbell, CA, and 5 nieces and nephews and their families, and numerous friends. He will be missed and remembered by all, including his dog Sam-e who spent much time with him.
Memorial service will be held at Lydgate Park at the end of the beach park near the Wailua River and the Holiday Inn on Sunday, March 11, at noon. Reception to follow near the Kamalani Playground. Casual attire is recommended.
Jubina “Hoba” Lopez
Jubina “Hoba” Lopez, of Kalaheo, Kaua’i, died at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital on March 6, 2001, at the age of 90.
Born in Makaweli, Kaua’i on Dec. 15, 1910, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons: Frank (Gladys) Lopez Jr. and Gerald Lopez both of the Big Island; three daughters: Virginia Lopez, Isabel (Marcelino) Coyaso and Patricia Velez all of Kalaheo, Kaua’i. 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. Sister; Julia (John) Rasado, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at the Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo; mass officiated by Father Keahi will begin at 11 a.m. Followed by the burial at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens.
Casual Attire is suggested. Arrangement are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
