The County of Kaua’i’s 35 & Over Slowpitch Softball League began its
playoffs last Thursday. Here are the results of the first round of the
single-elimination tournament.
November 16
Youngblood 12
Universal
Delivery 6
Youngblood advanced to the semifinal round with the victory. The
team jumped out to a 11-0 lead through four innings. But Universal clawed back
with six runs in the fifth to make things more interesting.
But Universal
could not sustain the rally, posting no more runs.
Darryl Borrero led
Youngblood with two singles and a triple. He also knocked in a run. Aaron
Uyeda, Miles Yoshida and Hoku Cup Choy each hit two singles and knocked in one
run. Rory Rayno hit a single and double, and also batted in a run. Antone
Balocan singled and drove in a run.
Sandy Pacheo pitched the win.
Lance
Nakata picked up the loss for Universal.
Ronnie Matsumura led Universal
with three singles and an RBI. Nelson Oshiro hit two singles.
Ohana Motors

Ikaika 1
Ohana applied the pressure early, scoring four runs in the
bottom of the first, before cruising to the easy win. It also advances to the
semifinal round.
Russell McCluskey led Ohana with a three-run homer. Jeff
Hashimoto had three singles and two RBI. Weslie Kaui singled twice and drove in
a run as well. Colin Braun hit a single and a triple. Lance Akama doubled
once.
Blackie Viquela picked up the win from the mound. Thomas Guess was
the losing pitcher.
Eric Fujiwara led Ikaika with three hits and a RBI.
Donovan Travaso singled twice.

Hoku Cup Choy pitched Youngblood to
the win. He also helped his cause with three singles. Aaron Uyeda and Antone
Balocan each singled twice.
Thomas Guess pitched the loss for
Ikaika.

In a bit of a pitcher’s duel,
D.D. Ibia came out on top. He yielded Ohana just seven hits.
Robert
Labuguen registered the game-winning RBI single in the fourth inning.
