LIHU`E – Three close games created excitement in the HGEA softball league as KFD won by just a pair of points, Na Kolohe was a digit better as was Public Works in their games.
Results of the July 25th games for the HGEA softball league follow: Kaua`i Fire Department 9, Kathleen’s Glass 7 Jason Ornellas’ single-run triple was the margin of victory for the Kaua`i Fire Department who picked up 13 hits in their 9-7 win over Kathleen’s Glass.
Shawn Hosaka had an RBI in his three singles to lead the firemen with Mike Scoval adding a pair of RBI in a single, and Cory Sakai singling and doubling, with an RBI.
Vince Nitta answered for Kathleen’s with an RBI triple with Wendall Nonaka adding a pair of RBI on a single and a homerun.
Kelly Robinson had an RBI on a single and a double, and Lance Nakata ended with a pair of RBI on two singles.
Gregg Morishige picked up the win on the hill for Kaua`i Fire Department, allowing a dozen hits with a walk.
Garrett Agena suffered the loss, allowing ten hits, and walking three before getting help from Eric Sakazaki who allowed three hits.
Na Kolohe 5, Custom Limo 4 Na Kolohe capitalized on an errant toss from the Custom Limo catcher to third base to score the winning run in their 5-4 win.
Norman Holt, Jr. picked up the win for Na Kolohe on the hill, allowing ten hits with five walks, and a strikeout.
Blackie Viquela suffered the loss allowing 11 hits and four walks.
Dickie Koerte paired singles and drove a run home to lead Na Kolohe bats with Radford Sam Fong ending the night with three singles. Kani Curnan singled and doubled.
Russell McCluskey homered and added an RBI on a double to lead the Custom Limo bats. Steven Carvalho had an RBI on a pair of singles, Derek Rapozo paired singles, and Destry Carvalho had a triple for Custom Limo.
Public Works 9, Nogi’s 8 Lance Akama provided the margin of victory for Public Works’ 9-8 win over Nogi’s. Akama ended the night with two RBI with a single and a double.
Public Works picked up 14 hits in the outing against Nogi’s 15-hit night.
Robin Shimabukuro had a 2-run triple for Public Works, and Steven Perreira had 2-RBI on a pair of singles. Mel Yamase paired singles.
Mel Nishihara, Scott Ebesu, and Glenn Hadama had 2-RBI outings for Nogi’s, Nishihara singling and double, and Ebesu and Hadama pairing singles.
Kyle Nakagawa added an RBI on a double, with Reid Tanita adding an RBI on a pair of singles. Bryce Nakamura and Victor Sasaki rounded out Nogi’s hitting by pairing singles.
Peter Ishibashi picked up the win on the hill allowing 15 hits with three walks while Nakagawa suffered the loss on 14 hits with a walk.
