KALAHEO—Hoops Pa`ina came to play basketball when they entered the doors to
the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center for the 3rd Annual Kaua`i Youth Basketball
Association county of Kaua`i 14 & Under boys basketball invitational
tournament.
Three days later, Hoops Pa`ina locked in a three-peat of the
tournament championship by defeating the Kaimuki Community Park 73-58 behind
the shooting of Kawika Calizar’s 16 points and Ryan Hirata’s 15
points.
Hirata was later named MVP for the 2000 tournament.
Richy
Miyasaka, Westin Lee, and Jimmy Miyasaka each tucked away 13 points to lead
Kaimuki with Ryan Matsuo adding 8 for the second place trophy.
Alex Reichle
had 11 points, and Kaupili Akau added 9 markers as the Puhi Wildcats locked up
third place in the tournament with a 46-32 win over the Kona Tigers who were
led by Kyle Teves’ 9 points and Easton Takata’s 7 points.
Desmond Rodrigues
chalked up 21 points with Kamu Kawaihalau adding 9 markers to lead the Kalaheo
Pistons to the consolation championship with a 41-34 win over the Pearl City
Highlanders who was led by Kaleo Cambonga-Meyer’s 15 points and Matt Sato’s 8
points.
Andres Emayo had 10 points and Jordon Dizon added 8 for the
Kaumakani Supersonics who handed the Westside Hornets their third defeat
36-29.
Alfred Farias fired 10 points for the Hornets with Jordan Shea and
Luke Tsuchiya each adding 8 points.
