WASHINGTON, D.C. — Hawaii’s congressional leaders came out in opposition to President Donald Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
“Judge Kavanaugh has not earned the benefit of the doubt. He has the burden of proof to demonstrate his ability to be independent of the President and exercise unbiased and independent judgment,” said Sen. Mazie K. Hirono.
U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz said Kavanaugh “has a troubling record of undermining civil liberties, opposing environmental protection, favoring corporations over workers, and undermining reproductive rights.
“It is now up to him to prove to the American people that he does not represent an extreme judicial doctrine, can serve as an independent check on the executive and legislative branches, and will champion civil liberties.”
Colleen Hanabusa urged her colleagues in the Senate “to reject the President’s attempt to fundamentally alter the balance of the court and further chip away at the protections guaranteed by our Constitution.”
“We cannot allow this President to reverse decades of progress to end discrimination, expand healthcare coverage, and advance the rights of women, workers, the LGBTQ community, minority communities and Native people,” Hanabusa added.

Pandering and another DRAMA QUEEN. Stop the madness!
Ay Sus! So embarassing these Democratic mocking birds pirching here on dis article. Hirono, Schatz, and Hanabusa so irritating and so obvious da bias and hatred for Trump it is sickening. You guys all part of da swamp, spewing da same false information that is being spread in da main stream media. I get one headache just reading the “LOW IQ” statement Hanabusa said at the end of the arricle—
“We cannot allow this President to reverse decades of progress to end discrimination, expand healthcare coverage, and advance the rights of women, workers, the LGBTQ community, minority communities and Native people,” Hanabusa added.
I agree with our state leaders! Why would we want a Supreme Court Justice to interpret the Constitution as written!
Yet another Kauai educated individual.
Ah, yea, like that’s one of the roles of the Supreme Court….to protect civil rights and liberties by striking down laws that violate the Constitution. So yea, interpret the Constitution.
I agree, Trump gotta go…the Democrats should impeach him already. No integrity this president.
