KAPAA — Rhea Lynn Robianes is excited for today.
“This is my first Halloween in Hawaii,” Robianes said. “We got here in March from the Philippines and over there, we don’t celebrate Halloween like this kind with all the pumpkins and stuff.”
Robianes said in the Philippines, people observe Halloween as a holy day, a day to pray for the souls of the dead.
In the days leading up to today, Robianes said she brought home pumpkins and other Halloween items when she gets off from work.
“This is awesome,” she said. “I’m looking forward to going to a costume party. There are some parts of the Philippines where they host costume parties, but it’s not the same as the ones in Hawaii.”
