Mary Kaliko Thronas
Mary Kaliko Thronas, lovingly known as “Aunty Mary” was born on Sept. 13, 1931, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 5, 2015, at the age of 84.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel K. Thronas Sr., mother, Margaret Kuewa Kilia Risner, father, Clifford Risner and sister, Lorraine Silvera.
Mary became chief flight attendant for Aloha Airlines and training instructor. She was the last surviving of the original four flight attendants for Aloha Airlines.
Mary played an integral part in the rise of the Democratic Party as a convention delegate since 1961. On Nov. 1, 1970, she was appointed as the governor’s liaison to the County of Kauai by the late Governor John A. Burns. She continued to serve as the governor’s liaison for Governor George Ariyoshi and Governor John Waihee.
She also served as Chairwoman for the Kauai County Council.
Mary was involved with many organizations and received many community awards. Most recently she was honored by the Zonta Club of Kauai as an Outstanding Leader and Volunteer for 41 years and as a Living Treasure in 2014 by the Kauai Museum.
Mary served on the Board of Directors as an Officer as well as a member of the Stanford Hospital Foundation, the Wilcox Foundation, Kauai Economic Opportunity, Incorporated, St. Catherine’s Church Council Building Fund, The Zonta Club of Kauai Foundation, and Tip Top Motel & Café among others.
She is survived by her children, George (Darlene) Thronas, Samuel Jr. (Iris) Thronas, Earl Thronas and Charmane (Audie) Thronas, sisters Bridget (Paul) Cafferty, Catherine Dyer Bassle (George), brother Thomas (Chris) Risner and brother and sister-in-law Henry and Renee Thronas and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial Services will be held on Dec. 26, 2015, at St. Catherine’s Church at 5021 Kawaihau Road, Kapaa. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with memorial Mass to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be private. Arrangements will be handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Taylor Keolakaho’omana Kanahele-Keamoai
Taylor Keolakaho’omana Kanahele-Keamoai passed away at the age of 24 on Dec. 6, 2015. He was a factory worker at Kauai Coffee for 6 years.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elsie Haoli Niau-Keamoai; Kama and Lama Kaohelauli’i; Aunties Kauai Keamoai and Debroah Kubo.
Keola is survived by his parents, Chris and Charity “Mano” Kanahele; brothers, Christopher Keolaonalani Kanahele, Chris Napomaikai Kanahele, Robert Kanahele and Johnston Kanahele; sister, Tiana Wailama Kanahele; Grandpa, Keoki (Virginia) Keamoai of Hanapepe; aunties, Peggy Kaohelauli’i, Mahealani Kanahele, Nalei Keamoai of Hanapepe, Kemamo (Brad) Betts of California and Kaimi Strickland of Kalaheo; hanai brothers, Josh “Kana” Niau-Kanahele of Eleele, Waylon Kanahele of Hanapepe; cousins, Jake Kaleohoomana Kaohelaulii of Kekaha, Bryce “Nali’i” Kaohelauli’i, Maka, Mano, Hauoli Keamoai and Kaimilei, Ikaika, and Keoki Strickland; along with numerous cousins, aunties, and uncles.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawai. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. with services from 10 a.m. to noon. Burial will follow at the Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery.
Casual attire is requested.
Satoshi ‘Sugar’ Kaneshiro
Satoshi “Sugar” Kaneshiro of Omao passed away at home on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, at the age of 92. Born on Feb. 24, 1923, in Koloa, Hawaii, he was a WWII Veteran with the 100th Infantry Battalion/ 442nd Infantry Regiment and retired farmer and carpenter with the Carpenter’s Union.
Sugar is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Donald of Helena, Montana and Daryl of Omao; daughters, Dorsa Asing of Kula, Maui; Melanie (Warren) Matsuyama of Lihue and Leah (Hoku) Cup Choy of Koloa; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Mamoru (Joen) Kaneshiro and James (Esther) Kaneshiro; and sister, Yoneko Gushiken.
Visitation with the family will be from noon to 1 p.m. at the Kauai Veteran’s Cemetery in Hanapepe on Monday, Dec. 28, 2015. Services will begin at 1 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Omao Ranch Lands.
The family requests casual attire and graciously declines flowers.

Charles Niitani
Charles Susumu Niitani of Lihue passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Dec. 10, 2015, at the age of 79. Born on Nov. 29, 1936, in McBryde Sugar Company’s Hospital in Koloa, he was a shipping clerk with Young Brother’s, Ltd.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Yutaka and Haruko Niitani; brother, Walter (Gladys) Niitani; and sister-in-law, Hisayo Niitani.
Charley is survived by his wife, Janet Niitani; daughters, Laura (Jenkin) Estrada of Lihue, Sandi of Lihue, Amy (Victor) Guarin of Honolulu, and Jill of Lihue; one grandchild, Matthew Estrada; brothers, George Niitani of Honolulu and Edwin (Masako) Niitani of Pearl City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Charley’s Life will be held at the Lihue Hongwanji on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. with services to follow at 5 p.m.
The family requests casual attire and are graciously declining flowers.

Eusabia L. Silva
Eusabia L. Silva, 89 years old, of Lihue, Kauai, passed away on Dec. 13, 2015, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Born on July 21, 1926, in the Philippines, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry G. Silva; her three sons, Romea, Ricardo and Rostico Pigao.
She is survived by her four daughters; Elma (Rudy) Gamata, Rolita (Edwin) Balbao, Susan (Steve) Castonguay and Lilibeth (Sam) Trinidad; two sons, Carlito (Nancie) Pigao and Wilbert (Melody) Pigao, 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Church from 8 to 9:45 a.m. where Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Pamela Leimomi Kailikini Dow, born April 13, 1952, passed away surrounded by her family on Dec. 10, 2015.
Preceded in death by husband, Ernest Dow, parents, Abraham and Ermine Kailikini Sr., and brother, Abraham Kailikini Jr.
Survived by sisters, Ruth Naumu and Cynthia Blair; step-children Jim (Eileen), David (Jeanne) Dow and Judy (Frank) Cano.

George Keaweamahi III, 59 years old, of Anahola, Kauai, passed away on Dec. 18, 2015, at his home in Anahola. Born on Jan. 16, 1956, in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was a heavy equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Keaweamahi, Jr., step-father, George Christian and mother Rose Christian
He is survived by his wife, Yolanda Watson Keaweamahi, son, Christopher George Keaweamahi; two daughters, Rose (Gary) Keaweamahi-Hoovler, La Rhonda (Arnold) Manibog; seven grandchildren; brothers and sisters Cleopatra (Sam) Kamae, Georgina Keawemauhili-Keaweamahi, Darius (Leonida) Keaweamahi, Latham (Ingrid) Keaweamahi, Wendell Keaweamahi, Edith (Bill) Bunch, Pearl (Wally) Nishimura, Julian Rillamas, Keawe Rillamas and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Orgelano ‘Anong’ Oligo
Orgelano “Anong” Oligo of Kekaha passed away at his residence on Dec. 17, 2015, at the age of 91. Born on Nov. 7, 1924, in Balaoan, La Union, Philippines, he was a carpenter with Kekaha Sugar Plantation.
He is preceded in death by son, Orling Oligo and daughter, Clara Oligo- Kanashiro.
Anong is survived by wife, Bessie Oligo of Kekaha; son, Ortilano (Karen) Oligo of Colorado; daughters, Betty (Brian) Dabis of Kekaha, Marie (Jim) Aana of Waimea, and Rosaline Oligo of Colorado; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of his Life will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at the Eleele Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m., with services at 5 p.m. Inurnment will be at a later date.
