LIHUE — Mary Jane Berger went to vote Monday morning, the first day of early voting at the Lihue Neighborhood Center.
“I’m going to have to come back,” Berger said. “I went in to vote, and found out my glasses had broken. The lady was real nice, saying maybe she could find a magnifying glass I could use. But it’s alright, at least I got the papers to fill out. I can come back later.”
The Lihue Neighborhood Center is the temporary early voting site for the primary and general elections.
Early voting for the primary election started Monday and will continue Mondays through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Early voting will run through Aug. 11 for the primary election.
“This is wonderful,” Berger said. “I’m going to be out of state on primary election day, so having this option is great. I’m definitely not going to miss the general election.”
The polling place is set up in the older building at the Lihue Neighborhood Center, 3353 Eono Street in the Isenberg Tract subdivision.
Signs are posted at both entrances to the Isenberg subdivision — if approaching from Lihue town, a left turn from Kuhio Highway at the AT&T store ahead of the Kuhio Medical Clinic. If approaching from Hanama‘ulu town, a right turn at the intersection across from the entrance to the G.N. Wilcox Memorial Hospital.
“You need to go to the older building at the Lihue Neighborhood Center,” said William Trugillo of the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation. “Otherwise, you might end up signing up for line dancing.”
