PUHI — A candidates forum has been organized by six Kauai nonprofits starting at 5 p.m. Thursday at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School.
Candidates running for the prosecutor’s office, Legislature and County Council will be there. The theme of the evening is, “Because it matters who we elect.”
Topics will cover a variety with an emphasis on environment, self reliance, infrastructure and social issues given the focuses of the groups involved.
The evening will begin with the Office of Prosecutor with both candidates Prosecuting Attorney Justin Kollar and challenger Lisa Arin participating.
About 6 p.m. State Senate candidate Kanoe Ahuna, District 14 candidates, Nadine Nakamura, Fern Rosenstiel and Sandra Combs, District 15 candidate Tommy Oi and District 16 representative Dee Morikawa will respond to prepared questions.
Sen. Kouchi, Rep. James Tokioka and candidate Victoria Franks are not scheduled to participate.
At 7 p.m. 10 of the 13 candidates for County Council will randomly select from prepared questions.
Arthur Brun, Ross Kagawa and Mel Rapozo are not scheduled to participate.
“We are creating an opportunity for people in our community to know their candidates and make educated choices,” said Patricia Fernandes Wistinghausen, event organizer and moderator.
The public is welcome.
Primary election is Saturday, August 13.
