“Little Shop of Horrors” put on by Kauai Community Players wrapped up its successful three-week run by selling out its final four shows.
Since the first seven also sold out at the Puhi Theatrical Warehouse, that meant every paid available seat was sold — a perfect 11 for 11. That’s unusual, to put it mildly.
In the past four years, the only other production to sell out every show was “It’s Only a Play” last year. Several came close, with only a few seats empty on a couple of nights.
“Little Shop of Horrors,” a musical, was directed by Rebecca Hanson. Its cast included Billy Quebido as Seymour; Jessika Montoya as Audrey; Arnold Meister as Mr. Mushnik, the shop owner; Kenna Shafter, Daphne Sanches and Jenne Cedusky as the chorus; Erik Hagan as dentist Orin Scrivello; Taj Gutierrez as the voice of Audrey II; and Chase Pitt, who plays a customer and works the third and fourth versions of the man-eating plant, Audrey II.
Next up for KCP is “Going Home,” by David Penhallow-Scott, opening Feb. 17. It is the final play in Scott’s series of four plays about plantation life in World War II-era Hawaii. In this fourth and final episode, Eudora, the widow of a plantation manager, struggles to make a new life for herself after her husband’s death. The director for KCP is Steve Whitney.
