LIHUE — Kauai’s Red Cross director Padraic Gallagher is in California to help with the fight against raging wildfires.
A team of six left Wednesday and arrived Thursday. They are scheduled to be there two weeks.
“We will be assigned to helping with sheltering for victims of the Southern California wildfires,” Gallagher said.
He said they don’t know where they will be assigned as things are changing quickly with the shifting winds.
“Disasters are tough at any time of year but this time of year it always seems just a little tougher and I am lucky in that I have ability to go and assist,” Gallagher said. “I try to do what I can because too many times in the past, when I would hear about a disaster on the news, I would say to myself, ‘I should really try to do something.’ Now I am in a position where I can actually help out.”
