HONOLULU — A former Honolulu police officer who played volleyball for the University of Hawaii has been sentenced to six months of incarceration for offering to help a woman with her prostitution case in exchange for sex.
HONOLULU — A former Honolulu police officer who played volleyball for the University of Hawaii has been sentenced to six months of incarceration for offering to help a woman with her prostitution case in exchange for sex.
Maulia LaBarre admitted to using a police database to find information about the woman, including her cell phone number. At his sentencing Monday, U.S. District Judge Susan Oki Mollway said he sent dozens of text messages to the woman.
Mollway says LaBarre abused his position of power.
Mollway says she sentenced him to less time than prosecutors asked for because his five children need him to find a job. She says LaBarre hasn’t be working and owes child support.
LaBarre must also serve a year of supervised release, including five months of home confinement.
With all the controversy going on with Louis Kealoha, you would think a pay raise would solve problems. I think not. More issues to be known. They are without pay.
