PUHI — The Island School Voyagers soccer teams came up short on Saturday against Kapa‘a High.
Kapa‘a High lost little time during the boys play, where the Warriors edged the Voyagers, 2-0, at the end of the first half. Island School responded with a goal from Sawyer Rogoff in the second half to prevent a shutout.
On the girls’ field, the Warriors’ Sienna Yamashita found the net early to force a 1-0 bulge at the break. Yamashita came back with another goal in the second half, and was joined by goals from Liliwai Keahiolalo and Hi‘ilei Hamberg for the 4-0 shutout over the Voyagers.
Over at Vidinha Stadium, where Kaua‘i High was hosting Waimea High, no scores were available for any of the junior varsity contests.
Kaua‘i High’s Brennen Corregedore found the net twice, and the Raiders got goals from Jacob Andres, Tyler Everett and Lono Kaneko in their 5-2 edge over the Menehune. Waimea’s goals were scored by Jaden Sams and Jacob Grossman.
Kaua‘i High girls got a fight from the Menehune following a 1-0 halftime lead set up on a goal from Brianna Ehia in the fourth minute of play.
Waimea came back off the break to answer with a goal from Tahilah Matsusaka in the 48th minute before Kaua‘i High rolled forward on goals from Ehia in the 54th minute, and back-to-back goals from Aileah Villatora in the 63rd and 64th minutes. A goal from Coral Turner completed the win 5-2 Kaua‘i High girls’ win following a late-game net from Kendra Knapp at the 78th minute for the Menehune.
KIF soccer continues when the Island School boys visit Kaua‘i High on Wednesday for a single, varsity contest starting at 4 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium. Over at Hanapepe Stadium, Kapa‘a High visits Waimea High with the girls contest starting at 5 p.m., and the boys’ contest at 7 p.m.
