LIHU‘E — Lori Benkert, representing the Academy of Creative Arts, said there was a stipulation that the funds would be for scholarships through the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Scholarship Fund.
“It’s nice,” said Cyndi Ayonon of the Zonta Club of Kaua‘i. “The funds come from an educational program, and will be used for education.”
On Thursday, when Benkert presented the check, she said the funds are left over after the closing of the Academy of Creative Arts.
“Our last program was in 2019,” Benkert said. “We didn’t have any programs in 2020 or 2021 because of COVID-19. During the pandemic, the leaders decided to close because they had problems finding staff, and there wasn’t any places to hold the classes.”
The presentation was done following the club’s normal meeting held in the upstairs conference room at the Lihu‘e Civic Center Mo‘ikeha Building, where a discussion of the recent scholarship presentations was on the meeting’s agenda.
