Helen V. Ramones
Helen Ramones, 96, a onetime resident of Wailua Homesteads, passed away on May 16, 2022, in Topeka, Kansas, where she lived with her daughter Valerie (Tom) Ramones-Blair for nine years. She was born in Kona, Hawai‘i Island.
She is survived by daughter Valerie (Tom) Ramones-Blair, son Richard (Karen), three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, Aug. 9, starting at 9 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Richard John Machell
Richard John Machell, 85, of Kapa‘a, passed away at his home on June 30, 2022. He was born on July 18, 1936, in Middletown, Connecticut. He had a long and respected career working in social services, and was a staunch advocate for adults with disabilities.
He was preceded in death by parents Augusta and John Machell.
He is survived by wife Irene Machell, stepsons Parish Alan (Sharon) Ubongen of Washington, Karl Nicholas (Florinda) Ubongen of Lawa‘i and Jason Lee Ubongen of Kapa‘a.
A private scattering of ashes will be held later.

Marc E. Guyot
Marc E. Guyot, 62, of Austin, Texas, passed away on May 27, 2022, after a battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on March 5, 1960, in Los Angeles, and moved to Hawai‘i in the 1980s. He lived on the islands of O‘ahu, Maui, Hawai‘i Island and Kaua‘i. He worked for a car-rental company, was a service writer for car dealerships, and had his own photography business, to name a few. In 1998, he went to California Western School of Law, San Diego, earning his law degree. In 2005, he was appointed as the deputy prosecuting attorney and then a deputy county attorney for the County of Kaua‘i. He was also a master mason of Kauai Lodge F. & A.M. in Lihu‘e, since 2013. In 2014, he moved to Austin, Texas, and worked most recently as the director of enterprise risk, strategic programs, at the Texas State Office of Risk Management.
He is survived by wife Yoko Watabe, from Japan (they met in Honolulu in 1998), brother Mike Guyot of Tujunga, California, sister Michelle Frener of Seaside, California, niece Alix Guyot of Harvard, Illinois, nephew Jesse Frener of Salinas, California, numerous friends who became family, and his shiba inu dogs Miko and Shiro.
He is now resting in his Lazy Boy recliner, devouring smoked brisket, drinking beers and laughing his booming laugh that we all loved so much.

Carl Kainoa ‘Hosey’ Hose Jr.
Carl Kainoa “Hosey” Hose Jr. passed away at his home in Puhi, on June 5, 2022, at the age of 71. He was born on Oct. 6, 1950, in Kalaoa, Hawai‘i. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a retired truck driver for Kaua‘i Commercial Company and Aloha Isle Moving.
He was preceded in death by parents Carl Ka‘ainoa Hose Sr. and Margaret Mahi Hose, sisters Margaret Puanani Kephart and Jameslyn U‘ilani Artates and brother Eric Eremia Hose.
He is survived by sisters Barbara Jeannie Miles and Deanna Mahilani Moala, sons Carl (Donna) Hose and Dillon “Manö” (‘Ilima) Hose Sr., daughter Delilah “Behbeh” (Darrell) Pundyke, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild on the way, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
His celebration of life is at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center on Saturday, July 30, starting at 10:30 a.m.
