Marion Haruko Aqui
Marion Haruko Aqui passed away on May 21, 2022, at the age of 89, in Kapa‘a. She was born on May 20, 1933, in Makawao, Maui. She was a retail sales manager.
She was preceded in death by parents Seiyei and Nabe Toguchi, brothers Clark, Kiyoshi, Hiroshi and George Toguchi, and sons-in-law Wayne Watanabe and Nelson Makanani.
She is survived by sons Joseph (Rita) Aqui of College Place, Washington, Gerald (Wanda) Aqui of Kalaheo, Glenn (Linda) Aqui of Puhi and Silas Aqui of Kapa‘a, daughters Kathleen Watanabe of Wailua and Jan Makanani of Hilo, grandchildren Richie (Jamie) Aqui, Jennifer (Kele) Kekuna, Kiana (Tyler) Palea, Kai (Shaylin) Aqui, Pua (Erin) Cobb-Adams, Brandee (Jeremy Tubera) Carrillo, Kahea (Drew) Desmarais, Jared (Kainoa) Aqui, Lehua (Bryson Vivas) Watanabe, Ryan (Lia) Aqui and Amber Aqui, great-grandchildren Keawe, Kainoa, Keanu, Duke, Emma, Amme, Tyran, Noah, Kira, Ka‘uale‘oke‘o, Kanoa, Akira, Dylan, Kalaunuiohua, Kahanohaweo, Wainohia, Ka’onohihiwahiwa, Micah, Zayn, Grey, Leo, Aberly, Bramson, Ryder, Bryden, Rydge and Tinsley, brothers Mitsuo (Marian) Toguchi of O‘ahu, Isamu Toguchi of O‘ahu and Charles (Elaine) Toguchi of O‘ahu, sister Hatsue Arakawa of O‘ahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is at Garden Island Mortuary on Friday, June 24, with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Maxie Moreno
Maxie Moreno passed away on April 22, 2022, at the age of 89, in Kekaha, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 23, 1932 in Kekaha. He was a heavy equipment operator for Kekaha Sugar Co. and also performed maintenance for Hale Kupuna Heritage Home.
He was preceded in death by father Tomas Moreno, mother Shandra Hernandez, brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Linda Moreno, sister and brother-in-law Josephine (Sefa) and Daniel Dela Torre, brothers-in-law Benjamin Domingo Sr. and Dickie Dela Cruz, great-granddaughter Zaylyn Rose Aranio, grandson-in-law Peyton Siliado II, father-in-law Juan Domingo, stepmother-in-law Elena Domingo, mother-in-law Enicia Garcia, stepfather-in-law Julia Garcia, and sisters-in-law Cristabel Garma, Cheryl Garma and Angie Dela Cruz.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 ½ years Florentina Moreno, sons Thomas (Lisa) Moreno Sr. of Kekaha and Maxie (Dolly Chang) Moreno of Kapa‘a, daughters Myra (Felix) Torres of Hanapepe and Gina (Benjie) Aranio of ‘Oma‘o, 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is Saturday, June 18, at the Garden Island Mortuary, with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. The family requests casual attire.

Henry Yoshinori Nishikawa, Sr.
Henry Yoshinori Nishikawa, Sr. passed away on May 27, 2022, at the age of 84, in Lihu‘e. He was born on Oct. 9, 1937 in Lihu‘e. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by parents Masanori and Yoshiko Nishikawa and brother Ed Nishikawa.
He is survived by wife Ann Nishikawa, son Henry (Debbie) Nishikawa Jr. of Kapa‘a, daughters Apryle (Randy) Obatake of Lihu‘e and Deneen (Rolen) Macadangdang of Hanama‘ulu, grandchildren Savannah Simons, Richard (Shawlin) Nishikawa, Tyson (Megan) Obatake, Megan (Kuincy) Cariaga, Mandy Obatake, Elaine Nishikawa and Brandy Macadangdang, great-grandchildren Nakoa Nishikawa, Nainoa Nishikawa, Kahela Chandler Nishikawa, Kyler Nishikawa, Mia Obatake, Kourtney Obatake, Mason Cariaga and Kamaya Cariaga, brother Herbert Nishikawa of Lihu‘e, sisters Bessie Fukushima of Lihu‘e and Frances Galdeira of O‘ahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held at a later date.

Frances Gadingan
Frances Gadingan passed away on May 23, 2022, at the age of 92, on O‘ahu. She was born on July 13, 1929, in Pu‘unene, Maui. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years Leon Gadingan, son-in-law Richard Tomita, grandsons Cyrus Gadingan and Sean Agoot, mother Eulogia Nicolas, father Guillermo Tacderan, sisters Helen Nono, Linda Cadiam and Bernie Bueno, and brothers Frankie Polintan, Ernest Tacderan and Arthur Tacderan.
She is survived by children Jeannie (Stanley) Agoot, Leonard (Faith) Gadingan, Leona (Richard, deceased) Tomita of O‘ahu, Leonel “Sonny” (Emily) Gadingan, grandchildren Lorelei (Joseph) Hosea of O‘ahu, Kimberlyn (Keith) Howell of Happy Valley, Oregon, Lance Tomita of O‘ahu, Donovan (Rhonda) Gadingan, Kylene (Timothy Jr.) Albao, Chelsea (Chris) Goshi of O‘ahu, Tyson (Kazuko) Gadingan of O‘ahu, Jason (Kimberly) Steele of Virginia and Edward Steele, great-grandchildren Ryan Agoot of Seattle, Chloe, Kainoa and Chrissy Howell of Happy Valley, Oregon, Luana and Aidan Gadingan, Mason Tomita of O‘ahu, Kai‘ea and Kiowa Albao, Trent and Blake Goshi of O‘ahu and Jace and Harper Steele of Virginia, sisters Clarita Visitacion, Dolores (Eddie) Recopilacion of O‘ahu, Maggie Bermudes of Las Vegas, Kathleen (Jose) Arucan of O‘ahu and Marilyn Salas and Norma Salas of O‘ahu, and numerous loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit the family on Saturday, June 18, at St. Raphael Church in Koloa. Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m., with service and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Raphael Cemetery. The family requests that masks be worn at all times.

Alexandra Halasey
Our loving sister, Alexandra Halasey, passed away on June 26, 2022. She was born on April 15, 1957.
She was a devoted family member and will be missed by her family and many friends.
She grew up in Southern California and moved to Kaua‘i in 1983.
As a college graduate she found work at the Coco Palms Hotel in the accounting department, and later helped her brother, Joe Halasey, run his fruit stand on the North Shore. She was an excellent caregiver to her elderly parents, and in the last few years enjoyed her retirement living in Kilauea.
She is survived by sisters Janet Kutkowski and Blair Church, brother Joe Halasey, seven nieces and nephews and one grand-nephew.
We will miss her dearly.
Pierre ‘Papa’ Pavao
Pierre “Papa” Pavao, of Kilauea, passed away on May 24, 2022, at the age of 65. He was born on Nov. 15, 1956, in Lihu‘e. He was a retired taro farmer and plumber.
He was preceded in death by parents John Pavao Sr., Paul Sun Kwong Say and Marianne Pavao, and brothers Earl Pavao and John Pavao Jr.
He is survived by wife Julie Yadao Constantino Pavao, son Pierre Makana (Alethia) Pavao, daughter Kalili (Kaulu) Pavao, hanai daughter Kelli Malia Berry, grandchildren Aniah Nahalia, Eden Nohea, Ezri Makoa, Elliora Kawena (Carrillo-Pavao), Waileia Ka‘uionalani, Uluwehi Kauaolikokalani (Pavao), Waipuna Kamana‘ohali‘aokekaimalie Pavao Kahale, hanai grandchildren Manoa William and Ira (Berry Lacock) Matthew, mother Barbara Jean Say, sisters Keala (Jerry) Pavao Tittle and Jonelle Leina‘ala (Sean) Pavao Jardin, brothers William (Regina) Pavao, David (Janice) Pavao, Paul Say and Byron Say, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is Friday, June 24, at St. Sylvester Church in Kilauea. Visitation is from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m., followed by Mass at 10 a.m.

Glenn M. Silva
Glenn M. Silva, 67, of Moloa‘a, passed away on March 13, 2022, in Honolulu. He was born in Lihu‘e on Oct. 5, 1954 to Gwendolyn Kamali‘i and Frank Silva.
He graduated from Kapa‘a High School in 1972 and went on to start a long, successful career in the construction industry. He was well known and respected for his meticulously built seawalls around Kaua‘i and for his excellent heavy equipment skills. He loved his work and rarely took any days off. He was a skilled guitarist, beautiful singer, and loved riding his Harley. He was mostly known for his infectious good humor and for spreading aloha in so many loving ways. In his spare time, he doted on his cats Squirt, Buddy and Nala.
He was preceded in death by son Matthew, mother Gwendolyn and father Frank.
He is survived by wife Julie, children Angela, Jenny, David and Ryan, brothers Oscar and Patrick, two nieces, three nephews, and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Please join his family for a celebration of life on Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at 2838 Kealia Rd, next to the old post office.
Emilio Soriano Sagucio
Emilio Soriano Sagucio, 88, of Lihu‘e, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on June 6, 2022. He was born in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Nov. 25, 1933, and retired as a landscaper.
He is survived by sisters Rosalina Sagucio of Hanama‘ulu and Anna (Benigno) Aguinaldo of Philippines, brothers Cecilio (Cres) Sagucio and Pedro (Luz Viernes) Sagucio, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A celebration of life is Thursday, June 16, at Immaculate Conception Church. Viewing begins at 9 a.m. followed by Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Frederic J. Peel
Frederic J. Peel passed away on June 4, 2022, at the age of 76, at Wilcox Medical Center.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1945, in Chicago. He spent most of his life as an educator, teaching students from grades three to 12 in California, Alaska and Oregon, as well as almost 30 years in Hawai‘i at Hanalei School, Waimea Middle and Kapa‘a Middle and High Schools. He loved his family, his furry friends and the backyard forest he created.
He was preceded in death by father Thomas F. Peel, mother Frances H. Peel and father-in-law Hideichi Yamada.
He is survived by wife Bonnie (Yamada) Peel, daughters Dawn (Elie) Sauma of Massachusetts and Lara (Anthony) Hazenfield of Colorado, son Jason K. (Beverly) Peel of O‘ahu, grandchildren Trisdan Ahuna, Sofia Sauma and Jason J. Peel, sister-in-law Virginia Yamada, sister Helen (Edward) Borgens Jr., mother-in-law Alice Yamada, niece Georgianna (Eric) Pfost of Sacramento, California, and nephew Edward (Beth) Borgens III, of Bakersfield, California.

Tomiko Higa
Tomiko Higa passed away peacefully on June 11, 2022 in Lihu‘e at the age of 102. She was born on Jan. 14, 1920 in Wahiawa Camp. She was a telephone operator.
She was preceded in death by parents Tozo and Kana Higa, sister Matsue Fukushima, brothers Kenichi Pete Higa and Bill Yasue Higa and nephews Alvin Fukushima and Calvin Fukushima.
She is survived by nephews Dennis (Jerilyn) Fukushima of Lihu‘e, Bernard Fukushima of Kapahi, Eugene Fukushima of Lihu‘e and Duane (Carol) Higa of O‘ahu, nieces Joy (Randall) Goto of Lihu‘e, Lori (Dean) Isara of O‘ahu, Stephanie Higa of O‘ahu, Valerie (Adrian) Fernandez of California and Kathy (Sean) Miller of O‘ahu, niece-in-law Rowena Fukushima of Lihu‘e, sister-in-law Hatsue Higa of O‘ahu and numerous grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
