Asayo H. Nishihara
Asayo H. Nishihara of Kapa‘a, passed away at home on Aug. 31, 2021, at the age of 97. She was born on Jan. 14, 1924, on Kaua‘i. She worked her entire career at Bank of Hawai‘i.
Asayo was preceded in death by husband Kamesake Nishihara, sisters Ruth Yamauchi, Betty Higa, brothers Takeo, Tadashi, Yutaka, Sadao and George of the Hirakawa family.
Asayo is survived by sons Owen (Verna), Wesley, Lance (Carmella), five grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws Dora Nishihara and Nobue Hirakawa both of O‘ahu, numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held with burial at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery. Family requests no koden (monetary gift).
Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Jose E. Bulatao Jr.
Jose E. Bulatao Jr. passed away on Aug. 15, 2021. He was born on Oct. 6, 1936, in Koloa. He retired as a Speech Instructor at Kaua‘i Community College.
Jose was preceded in death by parents Jose Evangelista Bulatao, Guadalupe Ledesma Bulatao, sister Rosalind Barbara Franklin and nephew Jack Odo.
He is survived by sisters Millie (David/Duke) Wellington of ‘Ele‘ele, Mabel (Maybelle) Jean (Kaoru/Jackson) Odo of Kalaheo, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

Sorry Jose. I knew your a long time ago. You knew my parents. You’re older than them. I knew you were one of the organizers of KCA Kekaha Community Association, Bicentennial celebration July 4th, 1976. Way back then. It was a big celebration. I knew you were involved in that event carnival at Kekaha park. This coming from the town mates and my grandparents who lived close by the park. You were a big community supporter. KCA
Mr. B will be sorely missed. He was my mentor, guide and advisor for many years and one of the few who shaped and developed my love and commitment to Kekaha and it’s people. Rest in paradise my dear friend.
