LIHU‘E — The state Department of Health Kaua‘i District Health Office reported Kaua‘i’s sixth fatality from COVID-19 and announced 41 new cases on Friday.
The fatality was a male Kaua‘i resident in his 50s who was hospitalized.
“We offer our sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of this individual,” said Mayor Derek Kawakami. “I am urging everyone to come together, shift our behavior and work together to prevent more pain in our community.”
“So far this month, our island has had four fatalities from COVID, compared with only two in the previous 16 months,” said Dr. Janet Berreman, Kaua‘i district health officer.
“The rise in cases will be followed by rising hospitalization rates and, unfortunately, more deaths,” she said. “We must all act now if we are going to stem this surge of disease. We must avoid travel unless necessary, avoid gathering in large groups, wear our masks, stay home if we’re sick and get tested and get vaccinated. There is no guarantee that these actions will be enough, but they are our best hope short of a shutdown,” she said.
Friday’s cases are three visitors and 38 residents. Of the 41 new cases, 10 are children and 31 are adults. Three of the cases are related to travel, one mainland and two interisland. The remaining 38 cases are considered community-acquired. Twenty-two of the community-acquired infections are close contacts of previously announced cases or are tied to an active cluster. The remaining 16 community-acquired cases have no known source of infection, including four cases whom investigators have been unable to reach after repeated attempts or who have refused to provide information.
The DOH has identified at least one new social-gathering cluster, one new shelter cluster, and one new occupational cluster in a construction/industrial company.
All active cases are in isolation, and close contacts are being identified, offered testing and directed to quarantine. Investigations are ongoing.
Friday’s cases bring the number of active cases to 250, with five hospitalized, and 1,273 cumulative cases.
Daily case counts continue to rise rapidly, despite the DOH’s efforts to perform comprehensive case investigation and contact tracing.

I am a part time resident of Kauai. I am fully vaccinated and practice all necessary things to stay safe and protect others. My question is why are residents allowed to travel back without getting tested. I have a friend who traveled to mainland and came back with covid. Just because they can self quarantine for 10 days doesn’t mean it’s okay. By the time she arrived, she had affected people on the plane, airport or everywhere else she went before heading home? Why don’t they impose testing if your are not vaccinated?
As we are all finding out the vaccinated are also passing on the virus. Bad mistake by the CDC to let people travel if vaccinated. I’m for testing ALL travelers, regardless of vaccines.
Does anyone know to what extent the severity of the illness in these cases?
The flu. It’s just like getting the flu. Some get a more serious reaction than others. Just like the flu. Many die every month from the flu so in that way it’s not as dangerous as the flu.

Why don’t they break down the numbers for vaccinated and unvaccinated in hospitalizations and deaths? Doesn’t it make sense to educated the public?
Flu is seasonal. COVID19 Delta Variant is dangerous because its highly contagious and causes long haul illness and death, even to those who are seemingly healthy with no underlying conditions. Once you get it, you’ll never be rid of it, and it can come back later to affect you again.
Don’t downplay this Pandemic Virus and say it’s just like flu, its not.
I have spoken to some people who tested positive. No symptoms. Also ones who were listed as having contact with someone that tested positive. Forced to quarantine for 10 days even with a negative test. Unreal
I find it interesting that in its reports to us the DOH does not tell us how many of the people who have gotten COVID have been vaccinated.
It is not 100% effective. But the ones that are vaccinated, 100% effective in killing someone. Useless vaccine .

650,000 Americans have died. Way more deaths than the flu, also more contagious than the flu. No one that is vaccinated has ever had extended stays in icu.

If DOH wants to increase vaccination rates, they need to start reporting hospitalizations and deaths in terms of vaccinated vs unvaccinated.

All these cases, and let’s hope there’s thousands more, more who are healthy people that become Immune to the virus and Non-Contagious, after being infected, and become part of necessary Herd Immunity that causes the Covid virus to phase out of our population.
If people understood their immune system, 98.99% of them would not fear the Covid virus, nor should they fear the virus if they are healthy, not even if they become infected by Covid.
Once anyone gets the natural Covid virus, or any variants of the virus, their body’s immune system undergoes the “get well” immune response.
The Immune Response takes approximately 2 weeks.
The Immune Response causes Antibodies to be made when infectious virus (or bacteria) invade the body. Those Antibodies eliminate the infectious virus like Covid.
Millions, if not billions, of Immune System cells each make protective antibody cells at 10,000 per second, making more than quadrillions of antibodies over 2 weeks to perfectly physically match, attack and attach, like a key fitting in a lock, that is the antibody to the virus; and that process eliminates the Covid viruses from your body.
Once your body eliminates the virus in your body, which takes about 2weeks, you become Non-Contagious because you have no more active virus to spread.
After eliminating the infectious viruses in your body, you still have an enormous amount of antibodies left over in your body and your antibodies are ready to attack and eliminate any additional outside Covid virus, or variant virus, trying to infect you.
The left over antibodies then circulate in your blood usually for a lifetime, and that is why you naturally get lifetime immunity to Covid, if you don’t interfere with your immune system giving you that immunity.
Vaccines do not provide that natural immunity and is the reason why vaccinated people still get Covid and spread it as well.
The article says people will die. But it has shown that those people who do die, while they also happen to have the Covid virus in their body, in almost all cases those people have pre-existing conditions capable of ending their life even without having the Covid virus.
So scientists are asking to put a reasonable % of blame on the pre-existing conditions vs. % of blame on the Covid virus. This ranking of the cause of death by % to pre-existing disease vs. the virus, should make people want to eliminate their pres-existing diseases instead of only managing the diseases with prescription drugs, while those diseases continue to plague your body and bring you closer to death with or without Covid.
If a person is obese, with diabetes, and/or heart, stroke, high blood pressure diseases, or cancer; made worse by taking daily numerous toxic and lethal prescription drugs, the cause of death can easily be contributed to by 20, 30, even 40 years of pre-existing diseases and their prescription drugs.
It can turn out that the actual cause of death is 90% caused by being elderly with decades long diseases and taking the toxic prescription drugs, and only 10% of a death being contributed to by Covid and/or medical complications that can occur while in the hospital.
If only 10% or 20% of the cause of death is from Covid, better to work on eliminating the other 80% to 90% cause of death by doing that which makes people well and healthy.
Health is not the absence of symptoms, especially when symptoms are controlled by drugs.
Bottom line we need more and more positive people with Covid, whether tested or not, or whether asymptomatic and positive, or being positive and only having mild or moderate symptoms.
Every positive case brings us closer to Herd Immunity, that is, the majority of people must be Non-Contagious and having Immunity protection against re-infection by the Covid virus.

That is not how small pox, measles, mumps, chicken pox, and covid work. People don’t die of small pox today because we have the small pox vaccine. He does not know. Please get vaccinated and save not only your life, but others lives as well.
I would like to know if the people who died were vaccinated or not vaccinated in your reports. And if they had underlying health conditions.

Did you know that the FDA approval of the Pfizer vaccine is actually for a vaccine that is not even available?
Pfizer split the product into two – the FDA approved one is called Comirnaty and there are “insufficient stocks” of it available. This vaccine is “legally distinct” from Emergency Use Authorization vaccine that is currently being distributed, and is NOT the FDA approved vaccine.
I read the stories and the comments almost everyday. So much of it is misinformation obtained from all of the user’s favorite social media.
I still want to know why you can fly interisland WITHOUT any TESTING. This is the biggest part of the problem with the rising numbers and deaths. Most of these inter island travel cases are residents, going to visit friends and family. It has become the friends and family pandemic in Hawaii with the residents allowed to fly without a test. Many of these free flyers are unvaccinated. Vaccinated travelers should be terrified of the residents flying all around. What is with the special treatment? Reinstate the testing for all flyers on interisland flights before you do it with the pan pacific flights. The statistics are clear where most of the problem is coming from. Deal with it, or get out of the way.

I so wish you were correct. I just read an article and watched the video of a professional trainer that was in 100% perfect condition. He caught Covid-19 in the very beginning (April 2020). He had a mild case and figured he had anti bodies. Unfortunately, he caught the Delta version two months ago. It put him in the hospital and he almost died. He is still on Oxygen and warns others to get vaccinated. He looked like a skeleton compared to his pre Delta condition.
Delta is not Covid -19 lite. It is affecting healthy people and children. I know folks who were healthy and died from it. Please review your facts on Delta. It is a killer.

agreed! And why are we not talking about vaccinated tourists bringing COVID as well?? IT didn’t just poof magically end up in our community. Community spread, AFTER they work at a hotel, sit at restaurant or touch something at a gas station where a tourist could have been, etc. At my work, I was called in to help after co-workers got COVID. ONLY the unvaccinated co-workers had to ttest and stay home, the vaccinated guy just went on his way, nothing said. He could have been spreading it at that point?? WHY IS THE FEAR winning? Shame on our leadership for being bought out by $$ big pharma.
Start testing visitors/residents upon arrival again, then we can talk real numbers again…
So the guy says it’s just like the flu and the only way to get rid of it is for everybody to get it. But we have all had the flu and the flu never went away, still kills plenty people every year. No make sense.
Why not all the details being released? Vaxed/unvaxed hospitalizations & deaths? They said it violates HIPAA regs. But no names released. We want to know of the 51 positive tests last Wednesday number who was vaxed and who was not.
