LIHU‘E — Judge Mike Soong connected for a 2-RBI shot in the seventh inning to push Kawaihau to a 12-10 advantage over the Aloha Kia Lihu‘e A’s, Saturday during the Kaua‘i Senior Softball league games contested at the Isenberg Park.
Kawaihau played see-saw with the lead throughout the seven innings, the Lihu‘e A’s getting the go-ahead nod in the sixth inning when Duane Girald, the Lihu‘e A’s pitcher, pushing pinch runner Ross Kagawa across the plate.
The see-saw thumped in Kawaihau’s favor when Soong delivered the go-ahead punch, and the Kawaihau defense shut down the Lihu‘e A’s during the home half.
During another close match, the Keonimana Gents edged past the ‘Ohana Rebels, 14-13 to create a three-way tie for second place in the standings. The scramble is between the ‘Ohana Rebels, Barteks, and the Keonimana Gents with each team sporting 11-2 records.
The Rookies are undefeated as the sole leader of the league after picking up its 13th victory with a 20-5 win over Solid Steel at the ‘Ele‘ele Park.
Kawaihau (10-3), with its Saturday win, sits in fifth place while the Aloha Kia Lihu‘e A’s (8-5) slips to sixth place.
League play continues, Saturday with games being played at the Wailua and Kaumakani fields. First pitch at each park goes off at 9 a.m.
