Anson A. Abalos
Anson A. Abalos passed away on Feb. 12, 2021, at the age of 63 in Waimea. He was born on Dec. 4, 1957, in Waimea. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a project manager with Kawailoa Development.
He was preceded in death by father Dominador Abalos, Sr.
He is survived by sons Anthony Abalos of Hanapepe and Aaron Abalos of Pakala, daughter Andrea (Tiara) Abalos of ‘Ele‘ele, mother Amparo Abalos, brothers George (Karleen) Abalos of Kapa‘a and Dominador (Marlyn) Abalos Jr. of Kapa‘a, sister Allison (Brad) Hiranaka of Lihu‘e, and numerous uncles aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A walk-thru visitation is at Garden Island Mortuary Saturday, April 3, from 9 to 10 a.m., with a celebration of life from 10 to 10:30 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, face masks and social distancing are required.

Demetrio ‘Don’ Aquino
Demetrio “Don” Aquino passed away on Feb. 10, 2021, at the age of 87, in Las Vegas. He was born on Oct. 14, 1933, in Koloa. He was a veteran with the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by wife Phyllis Aquino, son Alvin Aquino, daughter Tammy Aquino, parents Mariano “Quirino” and Clara Aquino, siblings Ben, Wen “Winky,” Elpidio “Pat,” Rudy Trinidad Pagador, Fely Begonia and Kathly Lavilla.
He is survived by daughter-in-Law Doreen Aquino of Lawa‘i, grandchild Noa Aquino, brother Dennis (Anita) of Lihu‘e, sisters Mercy (David) Remata of Makaweli, Nadia (Pablo) Sarmiento of Koloa, Dinah (Wally) Tavares of Kalaheo, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A walk-thru visitation is at Garden Island Mortuary Friday, April 2, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., with a celebration of life to follow. The family suggests aloha attire and welcomes flowers. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and masks are required.

Samuel ‘Jun’ Martinez Ramos Jr.
Samuel “Jun” Martinez Ramos Jr. of Hanama‘ulu passed away at home on March 20, 2021, at the age of 42. He was born in Lihu‘e on Dec. 20, 1978. He worked as a driver with The Kaua‘i Bus.
He was preceded in death by father Samuel Ramos, mother Renee Ramos, grandparents Primitivo and Maria Ramos, Crispin Evangelista and Anicia Cruz, sisters Michelle and Leilani Ramos, and cousins Cres Ramos Jr. and Aaliyah-Rose Ramos Pasa.
He is survived by wife Kanani Akui-Ramos, children Alexis Ramos, Pua‘ala, Lei‘ala and Kapono Akui-Ramos, nieces Alyssa Lardizabal, Xandra Ramos-Masumoto, grandmother Juana Ramos, uncles Reynaldo (Marjorie) Ramos, German (Mila) Ramos, Crescencio “Cres” (Becky) Ramos and Jerry (Emily) Ramos, aunties Gladdy (Angel) Palaroan, Sheanne (David) Michaud and Cleo (Andrew) Mulligan, in-laws, Darvin (Pua‘ala) Akui, and numerous cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, April 17, at Immaculate Conception Church. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. with Mass to follow at 10 a.m.

William ‘Uku’ Yoshiharu Ouye Jr.
William “Uku” Yoshiharu Ouye Jr. passed away on March 8, 2021, at the age of 58. He was born on Aug. 24, 1962, in Lihu‘e.
He is survived by his companion of 37 years Cynthia Delos Reyes, sons Anthony (Nikki) Delos Reyes of Phoenix, Scott (Sheena) Ouye of Boise, Winston (Lauryn) Ouye of Kapa‘a, grandchildren Jazzy, Taylee, Emily and William III, mother Anita Ouye, brothers Clem (Brigette) Correia, Pono Ouye and Jeffrey Ouye, sisters Karen (Marvin) Rivera, Sonia (Blaine) Nakano, Lani (Gabriel) Gutierrez, Danielle (Anatalio) Ramos and Kammy (Paul) Grable, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He as preceded in death by his father William Ouye Sr. Both were avid fishermen and great card players.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Karen Hanako Kihara
Karen Hanako Kihara, 73 was born on Nov. 21, 1947, in Lihu‘e, and peacefully passed away on March 19, 2021, in Wareham, Massachusetts.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Ruth Kihara, sisters Ellen Roth, Linda Davis and Sharon Kihara, and daughter-in-law Kerrianne Rapozo.
She is survived by beloved son Titus Keoki Rapozo, grandchildren Brandi Dilwith, Leilani Brown, Malia, Elias and Kai Rapozo, sisters Mildred Kihara, Patsy Hamada and Naomi Navarro, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nelson ‘Holo Holo Nelson’ Ka‘ai
Nelson “Holo Holo Nelson” Ka‘ai, 79, of Kapa‘a, passed away on March 18, 2021, in Lihu‘e. He was born in Waimea on June 4, 1941, and retired as a lineman supervisor for Kaua‘i Electric Company.
He was preceded in death by wife Cecilia Ka‘ai, parents Solomon Sr. and Annie Ka‘ai, siblings Ernest Ka‘ai, Anna Erlandiz, Solomon Ka‘ai Jr., Issac Ka‘ai, and Kenneth Ka‘ai.
He is survived by his daughter Corinna (Honorato Jr.) Ka‘ai-Macabeo, hanai daugthers Rose (Michael) Kamau-Laronal and Ku‘ulei Mokihana Kekuewa, hanai sons James “Kimo” (Pi‘ilani) Watson and Benson (Charlene) Kamau, siblings Mary Kekuewa, Charlotte Ka‘ai, Charlene Molsbarger and Alan Kapali, grandsons Jerome (Ani) Macabeo, Nathan (Sarah) Ka‘ai and Keoni Ka‘ai, hanai grandsons Kaipo Dabin Jr. and Keanu Laronal, great-grandchildren Amaya Macabeo, Cecilia Macabeo, Lucine Macabeo, Emma Macabeo, Ethan Ka‘ai and Nova Ka‘ai, and many hanai great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Penny Lee (Morris) Thompson
Penny Lee (Morris) Thompson was born April 24, 1943, in Fort Worth, Texas, to parents Jessie Morris and Minnie Worlick. She died March 25, 2021, from complications of a long-term illness.
She attended Tech High School and excelled as a vocalist, becoming a two-time selectee to the Fort Worth All-City Chorus. She volunteered as a nursing assistant at John Peter Smith Hospital. She studied business administration at the University of Nebraska, which she later used as an accountant before finding a department-manager position at the Safeway Grocery Store chain, where she was employed for over 20 years. She worked at Equifax, inc., for 10 years as a medical report analyst before retiring in 1998. She met her husband of 43 years, Tommy, in Dallas in May 1977. They were married June 8, 1978, and lived in Richardson, Texas, until 1998, when they moved to Kaua‘i and retired in Princeville.
They had started visiting the islands on their 40th birthday in 1983, came every year, before realizing their retirement dream that August of 1998.
Both were involved in many local social activities, especially golf, dining and animal-service participation. She never met a critter she didn’t like, except for snakes (Good she live Hawai‘i) and centipedes.
She joins her dogs Tug and Maggie, cats Linus and Lucy, in the afterlife, and is survived by her husband Tommy and Suzy Q. Chihuahua.
She will be interred with her husband at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point Cemetery, after his passing.
