Marissa Tanji of the Monkeypod Jam said the Lawai factory (they love their Seven-11 neighbors!) was hosting a make-it-and-take-it cookie gathering among other exciting activities. Over at the market, Marissa showed off their Italian marinated ulu that was announced as a finalist in the Good Food (in San Francisco) Awards competition, along with the company’s pickled holo (fiddlehead) fern.
The vendors at the 40th annual Kauai Handworks Craft Fair at the Elsie Wilcox Elementary School cafeteria Saturday also fall in the same class of small businesses. Tamra Martin (she even did special Wilcox colors on a Home cap for the recent ‘Ohana Day) had her Home apparel and stickers, and the waffle dogs being offered by Lezlie Yaris and Austin Cruz were crispy and ono (Maito Cuenta said he accepts samples).
Sumiko Amulacion of Sumiko’s kettle-popped corn is still in Waimea Canyon Middle School, but well on her way to a business path, as she helped her parents dispense the ono morsels at the craft fair, and who was the first one at the craft fair who said we could use some tables (and coffee) to catch up with all those people who you never see until you go to the craft fair?
OK, it’s time to go check out the culinary offerings at the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital Christmas tree-lighting ceremony that starts with food sales at 4:30 p.m. today in Kapaa!
