LIHUE — The three young victims of a fatal car accident Saturday in Anahola were all students at Kapaa High School, according to a statement from Principal Tommy Cox posted Monday morning on the school’s website.
“It is my sad duty to inform you of the recent passing of two of our students and a former student in a motor vehicle crash over the weekend,” Cox wrote in a letter addressed to parents and school staff. “This loss has deeply affected our school community. On behalf of the entire Kapaa High ‘ohana, I send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of these students.”
Grief counselors will be available to help students and school personnel cope with the loss, according to Cox’s letter, which concluded, “Together as a family, we will get through this difficult time.”
A Kapaa High staff member who answered the phone Monday afternoon, told The Garden Island that school administrators are working to put together a memorial service for the car accident victims and said students have already started making plans of their own.
So sad!! Just in their prime of life! Everyone, please drive and be safe!!
