LIHUE Kauais Sierra Hampton-Eng has been appointed as Interim Kauai Commissioner on the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women.
LIHUE — Kauai’s Sierra Hampton-Eng has been appointed as Interim Kauai Commissioner on the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women.
“I know this incoming group of women will strengthen our effort to improve and create a stronger state Commission to lead the U.S. against the systemic erosion of women’s rights,” said the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women Executive Director, Khara Jabola-Carolus.
The three new commissioners will lead its efforts in advocacy, outreach, and beyond.
They are: Deja Ostrowski, who started her tenure as Oahu Commissioner on April 22; 2) Terri Ann Motosue, who was appointed as Oahu Commissioner on July 1; and 3) Sierra Hampton-Eng, who become the Interim Kauai Commissioner on Aug. 9.
Ostrowski succeeds former Oahu Commissioner Amy Monk who was appointed in 2012.
Motosue succeeds former Oahu Commissioner Sherry Campagna who was appointed in 2015. Hampton-Eng succeeds former Kauai Commissioner Lisa-Ellen Smith who was appointed in 2011.
Hampton-Eng recently was named the new head librarian at Lihue Public Library. Prior to that, she was the young adult librarian for four years.
She holds a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
“The Commission extends a warm welcome to our newest members, and deepest appreciation to our outgoing Commissioners as we all continue to work for equality and well-being for women and girls in Hawaii,” said Chair Judy Kern.
