Congratulations to Caryn Sakahashi, Al and Amy Sugano (Carol Kanna was able to get one of those fancy brassia/oncidium specimen that Al said will last through Mother’s Day), Neill Sams, and all those winners from the Garden Island Orchid Society’s Spring Fantasy orchid show and plant sale (that was a great stopping-off point on the way home from Beach Day) that wrapped up Saturday afternoon.
More kudos to Principal Corey Nakamura and the Elsie Wilcox Elementary School staff on another great STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Night that went off with the help of numerous community partners and volunteers!
Sara Miura (she had her Deja Vu team volunteering after doing the color run last week for the Kauai Special Olympics — no yellow shirt this time, Akemi? Was extracting DNA hard?), and Chuck Brady (no Kauai Interscholastic Federation volleyball for Cheryl Brady) arranged to have Lori Shimoda of Chaminade Univesity having her team transform the keiki into “scientists” working with Kauai Marriott Resort &Beach Club fats.
Brent Mizutani, Leila Kobayashi (Koloa School has one coming up soon), Sherry Gonsalves (congratulations on being named Kauai District Principal of the Year!) and a lot of other state Department of Education leaders mingled through the crowd to glean ideas on how to have this work at their respective schools.
