LIHUE — Medical Marijuana on Kauai will be the topic of Thursday’s Lihue Business Association meeting at Duke’s Canoe Club.
Guest speakers will be Janet Berreman, Kauai District Health Officer; Neil Clendeninn , clinical researcher; and Casey Rothstein, chief operating officer, Green Aloha Ltd.
The discussion will include:
• What medical conditions qualify for certified use of cannabis?
• Who can certify patients?
• What are the current challenges of growing and selling medical grade cannabis?
• How does the reality of medical marijuana being listed as a federally classified Schedule 1 drug affect the practice of medical professionals, growers/sellers and patients?
Eight dispensaries across the state are currently licensed to sell to these patients. The one allowed on Kauai opened last May.
According to a press release, “severe pain” is the category under which 85 percent of Hawaiiʻs 24,000-plus medical marijuana patients qualify for certification.
The meeting is set for 7:30 to 9 a.m.
It is free and open to the public.
