About 200 runners completed either the 2K, 5K or 10K distances of the 42nd annual Captain Cook Caper Run on Saturday in Waimea.
Everyone, from the keiki to the kupuna who fell into the 51-to-99 age group, had a good time in the race that benefits Waimea High School programs.
The weather was pretty much close to ideal, with sunshine, blue skies and a nice breeze.
The race was part of the Waimea Town Celebration.
Kawaihoola Curnan was the 10K in 37:45. Alex Dutcher led the women in the 10K in 39:21.
Jeremy Gibbons won the 5K in 21:03, while Hildegarde Miyasir led the women in 24:06.
Sean Mullikin led the 2K in 8:37, while Makana Duncan was also clocked in 8:37.
Since this is the 5K or 3.2 miles, I felt to inform you that some had to finish before 7:30 am. If you started at 7:00 am as you do every race. I ran this race 3 times. It was awhile back. 1988, 1996, 1997. I can see you guys got the slower runners in the 5k. But it was still good time. I remember sprinting all the way through. I came away with a time of 22:31 but they had to go with 24:31, 2 minutes added. Not sure why they do this. I was younger then.
