Peter Wilcox Rivera, Sr., of Anahola, died Jan. 22, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 42. He was born July 31, 1957, in Lihu’e.
He is survived by his wife: Cindy Mahi Rivera of Anahola; two sons: Peter (Stacia) Rivera, Jr. of Anahola and Prestan Rivera of Anahola; one daughter: Charnelle Rivera of Anahola; his mother: The Rev. Adeline Rivera of Anahola; his father-in-law: The Rev. Charles L. Mahi, Jr. of Hilo; three sisters: Linda (Villamor) Parbo of Kekaha, Valerie (George) Parbo of ‘Ele’ele, and Carolyn (David) Gutierrez-Rapozo of Anahola; five brothers: Alfred Rivera, Jr., Wentworth (Mary) Rivera, both of Anahola, Marvin (Karen) Rivera of Kapa’a, Frank (Amber) Rivera, Sr. and Leland (Cristy) Keale, Sr., both of Anahola; four sisters-in-law: Charlotte Mahi, Georgeanne (Paul) Murray, Beverly (Edmund) Daog, all of Hilo and Ivy Rivera of Kekaha; one brother-in-law: Charles (Nanette) L. Mahi, III of Hilo, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 12, at Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary Chapel, with burial to follow at Kapa’a County Cemetery. The family suggests casual attire.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Steven Smith Steven
Michael Smith of Carlsbad, New Mexico, and formerly of Hanalei, died Jan. 3, 2000, at his home at the age of 53. Born July 6, 1946, in Amarillo, Texas, he was originally part of the Wailua Beach Boy Club and a member of the Hawaiian Laborers Union 225.
Smith is survived by his father, Leonard Smith of Carlsbad; ex-wife Nena Tangalin Smith-Johnson and the Tangalins from Wailua Houselots; his daughter, Malia Mokihana Smith of Wailua; and brothers, twin Larry Smith and Bill Smith, both of Carlsbad.
A private cremation is planned, with cremains to be scattered at sea off Hanalei.
Rufina Ramos
Rufina Ramos, of Kekaha, died at Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital on Feb. 2, 2000, at the age of 93. Born in Paniqui Tarlac, Philippines on Aug. 18, 1907.
She is survived by her husband: Tomas Ramos, Sr. of Kekaha; two sons: Tomas (Rosemarie) Ramos, Jr., Roberto (Lisa) Ramos, both of Kekaha; one step-son: Rufino (Betty) Ramos of Kekaha; two daughters: Maxima (Jesus) Guirao of Kekaha, and Erlina (Tino) Caoagas of ‘Oma’o; three step-daughters: Juliana (Jesus) Pagaduan of Kekaha, and Agatuna Bermudez and Juana Velasco of Philippines; 31 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Meliton Fernandez and Pacifico Fernandez, both of the Philippines; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the St. Theresa Catholic Church in Kekaha; Mass officiated by Father Alex Pablo will begin at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Kekaha public cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Angeline Pacheco
Angeline Motta Pacheco of Kilauea died Feb. 6, 2000, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 85.
A housekeeper with Hanalei Plantation, she also worked for Hawaiian Fruit Packers and Club Mediterranean. She was born March 18, 1914, in Lihu’e.
She is survived by two sons: Alfred Pacheco, Jr. of Hanama’ulu and Gary (Haunani) Pacheco of Kilauea; two daughters: Sally (Taxi) Kimura of Kilauea and Marilyn P. Louis of San Diego; one sister: Sophie Pavon of San Leandro, Calif., and one daughter-in-law: Alice Y. Pacheco of Kilauea; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 11, at St. Sylvester’s Catholic Church in Kilauea from 9 a.m., where Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua’i Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.

Joseph J. DeCosta
Joseph J. DeCosta of ‘Oma’o, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 4, 2000, at the age of 77. Born in Kekaha, on March 16, 1922, he was a retired district electrician with Kauai Electric.
He is survived by his wife: Emma DeCosta of ‘Oma’o; one son: Joseph J. “Pancho” (Yolanda) DeCosta of Lawa’i; one step-son: Kamalino Wedemeyer of ‘Oma’o; three daughters: Jeanne (Dean) Nadatani, Marjorie (Dana) Akita, Carol (Steven) Shinagawa, all of Lawa’i; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Louis Costa of Kekaha, Alfred Costa of Long Beach, Calif., and Frank (Dolores) DeCosta of Kekaha; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Kalaheo Holy Cross Catholic Church; Mass officiated by Father Keahi will begin at 11 a.m., followed by burial at the Hanapepe Hawaiian Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
