Well,
maybe. Gas dealers on Kaua’i are hopeful that the combination of more fuel
coming from Middle East oil producing companies and a late-summer lessening of
demand for the stuff on the U.S. mainland will bring the per-gallon price here
back down from the $2-plus that regular is fetching.
No matter how much
islanders grumble about the pump pain, just remember things could be worse. A
lot worse. Ask Europe, where petrol sticker shock has reached epidemic
proportions.
In England, gas station closures have forced hospitals to use
ambulances less often. And in Belgium, France, the Netherlands and Germany,
truckers and others who drive for a living protested high prices with highway
blockades. So hang in there, Kaua’i. With any luck, the gas predicament here
will get better before it gets worse.
