Sadly enough, tragedy often serves as a reminder of the goodness of people.
That was the case again this week as segments of Kaua’i rallied around a German
tourist after his wife drowned Monday at Hanakapiai Beach.

Society did its best to console the man and help him through his loss. By
offering a memorial service for his wife and helping smooth the way for her
body to be shipped home, hospice representatives did what they always do when
such a need arises: Help the living deal with death.
The local chapter of
American Red Cross and Kaua’i Police chaplain Jan Rudinoff are other important
elements in the island’s sensitive handling of tragedies. Residents and
visitors who’ve received the gracious treatment from Red Cross, Rudinoff and
the hospice know the solace it provides; others can expect the same if and when
they ever need a shoulder to lean on.
