The thieves who have stolen four Hondas on Kaua`i in the past two weeks in the
Lihu`e and Kapa`a areas know what they’re doing, according to
authorities.
“What’s unique is the way they are stealing the cars,” Kaua’i
Police Lt. Bill Ching noted.
In the past, he said, car thieves on Kaua`i
usually enter unlocked cars and vandalize the steering column to expedite their
free rides. But Ching said the latest thieves are entering locked cars and “hot
wiring” vehicles.
“They know what they are doing,” he said.
Police
aren’t talking about motive, but Ching did say three of the four stolen Hondas
have already been recovered.
“They are earlier models and we’ve recovered
three out of four. They are used and dumped. And some parts, including tires,
have been stolen,” Ching said.
He said police have no descriptions of the
thieves.
Anyone with information on these crimes is asked to call Crime
Stoppers at 241-6787 or Ching at 241-6763.
