Current ASP surf pro and Hanalei resident Andy Irons clinched the G-Shock Hawaiian Pro title at Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu, on Tuesday.
The Kaua’iian beat Mick Fanning (AUS), Myles Padaca (HAW) and Cory Lopez (USA) into second, third and fourth place, respectively.
Irons was unbeatable throughout the event winning all his heats and posting the final highest heat score of the event (26.10 points out of a possible 30 points).
Irons pocketed $10,000 in prize money and 2750 valuable World Qualifying Series (WQS) moving him into 41st position on the WQS ratings.
The G-Shock Hawaiian Pro is the final stop on the World Qualifying Series (WQS) tour and the first event of the Vans G-Shock Triple Crown of Surfing held on the North Shore of Oahu. The G Shock Hawaiian Pro is a six star rated event with US$100 000 in prize money. From Haleiwa, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing will migrate along the North Shore to Sunset Beach for the final men’s World Championship Tour (WCT) – the Rip Curl Cup – November 26 to December 7. The third and final stop of the series is the Xbox Pipeline Masters at Pipeline – December 8-17, an invitation-only specialty event.
