Evelyn Mahelona
Evelyn Mahelona of Puhi, Kauai, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Aug. 6, 2002 at the age of 54. Born in Honomu, Hawaii on June 15, 1948, she is survived by her fiance’ Nelson Packard; son, Andre Perez of Makawao, Maui; two daughters, Johnette Stevens of Kapaa, Kauai and Lahela Kinimaka of Puhi, Kauai; eight grandchildren; parents, Daniel (Eleanor) Carvalho; sister, Sylvia (Ernest) Vidinha of Kalaheo, Kauai; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sat. Aug. 10, at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery, with burial to follow.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Frank M. Gonsalves
Frank M. Gonsalves, 75, also known as “Sharky”, died July 7, 2002, in Hayward, Calif., where he had been a resident for the past 48 years.
Originally from Omao, Kauai, Frank is survived by his wife, Helen Gonsalves of Hayward, Calif.; son Alfred (Barbara) Gonsalves of Oahu; grandson, Tino Gonsalves of Oahu, granddaughter, Puni Dando and great granddaughter, Ashley Rachel Dando of Wailuku, Maui; brothers John Gonsalves of Omao, Kauai, Joe Gonsalves of Concord, Calif., and sister Margaret Hill of Madera Calif.
A member of the U.S. Army, he served in the Philippines at the end of World War II out of Schofield Barracks. He was a former plumber at Tripler Army Hospital, then a pipe fitter at Pearl Hearbor Naval Shipyard, a pipe fitter at Hunters Point, Calif.; and plumber at Oakland Army Terminal, Calif. He retired from Public Works Center Bay Area California as a General Foreman.
