Benedicta “Betty” Pacanas of Koloa, Kauai, died Dec. 4, 2002, at the age of 76.
Born May 6, 1926, in Lihu’e, HI, she worked with the pantry staff at a hotel.
She is survived by one daughter: Rosalind Gay of Koloa; five sons: Edwin Pacanas of Palmdale, Calif., David Pacanas of Koloa, Albert (Cheryl) Pacanas of Fremont, Calif., Dennis Pacanas of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Wes (Patti) Pacanas of Hanapepe, HI; two sisters: Carmen “Randy” Coffing, of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Maria Suan of Honolulu, O’ahu; two brothers: Mariano “Plute” Hostallero and Perfecto “Perry” Hostallero, both of Honolulu; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 12, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary; service will be at 11 a.m. immediately following visitation. Burial will be at Kauai Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in Hanama’ulu.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick/Kaua’i Mortuary.
Earl Spencer, Sr.
Earl Spencer, Sr. of Anahola, Kauai, died at his home on Dec. 4, 2002, at the age of 60.
Born in Hawaii, on Dec. 14, 1942, he was a supervisor for the Department of Water.
He is survived by two sons: Earl (Harrie’Lyn) Spencer of Hanalei, Ashford Lanakila (Lana) Spencer of California; one daughter: Sarahlene Matinez; two brothers: Ashford (Atsuko) Spencer of NV; Charles (Diana) Spencer of Hanalei; one sister: Bertha Huihui of Honolulu, 14 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Hanalei Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Hanalei Community Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Narciso Ver
Narciso Sambrano Ver of Kealia, Kauai, died on Nov. 30, 2002 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, at the age of 96.
Born in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Mar. 18, 1906, he was the Cafeteria Manager for Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
He was Kaua’i’s 1976 Outstanding male Senior Citizen of the Year; a board member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Kapa’a Center RSVP representative; charter member of Kaua’i Government Employees’ Federal Credit Union; frist president of Mahelona Hospital Hospital United Public Workers; and board member of the Kaua’i Council of Filipino Catholic Club.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Ana Quevedo Ver. He is survived by his daughter: Arleen Clarita Ver, of Kealia; brother: Artemio (Aida) Ver, of Toronto, Canada; four sisters: Melchora (Jose) Dragon, Anacleta (Edwardo) Corrales, Francisca Ver Bayle, and Paula Ver, all of the Philippines, numerous nieces and nephews. Especially the Quevedo-Ver Clan).
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:24 p.m. Service will begin at 3 p.m. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Sharon Gayagas
Sharon “Christine” Gayagas of Kapa’a, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, on Dec. 9, 2002, at the age of 52.
She was born on Dec. 12, 1949, in Washington state.
She worked in the Kayak Activity Business and was known by kamaaina and visitors for many years as “The Fun Lady.” She is the past recipient of the March of Dimes Volunteer of the Year Award and S.P.I.N. Parent of the Year for her advocacy work with children with special needs.
She is survived by her husband: Douglas Gayagas, Sr., mother: Major Mrs. Melba Gilden of Sun City, Calif.; brothers: Glen Gilden, Sr. of VisaLia, Calif. and Ronald Gilden, of Cheyenne, Wyo., sister: Cathy Gilden-Jones (Ed) of Auburn, Wash., daughters: Kari (Donald) Graham of Lake Elsinore, Calif. and Makayla Gayagas of Kapa’a, sons: Douglas Gayagas, Jr. of Honolulu, Brandon Gayagas and Matthew Gayagas both of Kapa’a, and granddaughter: Krysta Gayagas.
Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army Corps at 4182 Hardy St. in Lihue. A potluck will follow. Aloha attire is suggested.
