Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. representatives celebrate the grand opening of the Kaua’i Coffee Cafe at the company’s Port Allen Marina Center this Saturday, April 5.
The new center, near the Port Allen Small Boat Harbor, houses the offices of several tour-boat companies and other businesses not necessarily related to the tour-boat industry, including the Kaua’i Coffee Cafe.
Both the center and Kaua’i Coffee Company are owned by A&B.
The cafe opens at 5:30 a.m., serving customers until 3 p.m. daily. The cafe serves Kaua’i Coffee, other cold and hot beverages, panini-grilled sandwiches, soups, salads, and pastries.
Also on the menu is fresh-made gelato ice-cream. Packaged coffee and other Kaua’i-made food gift items are also available for purchase.
Saturday’s grand-opening festivities include a live broadcast from Travel Host Radio, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., hourly giveaways of Kaua’i Coffee products, and gift certificates from island-wide activities and services.
There will be live music by Aloha Breeze at noon. The Kaua’i Coffee Company’s hula-girl logo will come alive, and there will be lots of tasty treats to sample.
“The Port Allen Cafe is our premier beverage and food outlet, the prototype, if you will, for others we hope to open on the island,” explained Frank Kiger, Kaua’i Coffee Company president and general manager.
“We have achieved some significant marketing goals recently, including the conversion of the Marriott (Kaua’i Marriott Resort & Beach Club) to an all-Kaua’i Coffee property, and the creation of our first cafe,” Kiger continued.
“With the hard work of our dedicated staff, we expect the cafe to be very successful, serving the growing Port Allen clientele and an increasingly sophisticated coffee consumer,” he said.
“This is part of our strategy to ensure Kaua’i Coffee Company’s long-term success. We’re producing a great product, capturing the added value, and will continue to demonstrate our commitment to our community, our employees, and our customers,” said Kiger.
“Everyone wants to start their morning with a great cup of coffee,” said Barbara Watts, Kaua’i Coffee Company’s retail operations supervisor.
“So we are open early, ready with the freshest-brewed cup of 100 percent Kaua’i Coffee for all the folks who find themselves at Port Allen Harbor in the morning,” she said.
“It’s a wonderful location to watch the sun come up, or just relax and watch all the boat-harbor activities while enjoying light meals, the island’s warm Pacific sun, and island breezes,” she described.
“One of the sweet treats offered by the cafe is our gelato, and it’s getting rave reviews,” she added.
“It is an Italian-style ice-cream made with fresh fruits, chocolate, other special ingredients such as Kaua’i Coffees and Maui Brand Sugar, which gives it a unique taste.”
The Port Allen cafe augments the company’s visitor center, located at Numila, within the 3,500-acre estate, and near its factory and headquarters.
The Kaua’i Coffee Company Visitor Center, which opened in 1998, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It features an on-site, coffee-roasting room; a mini-museum with information about the coffee industry; and a complimentary video presentation about the Kaua’i Coffee estate.
Today at 5 p.m., Kaua’i Coffee Company officials host a cafe blessing and dedication for invited guests, with the Rev. Harold Kilborn of the Koloa Assembly of God Church conducting the ceremony.
Representatives of other Port Allen Marina Center businesses, other Port Allen-area business colleagues, neighbors, elected and appointed officials, and company employees have been invited to the Friday event.
The Kaua’i Coffee Company, which produces 60 percent of the state’s coffee on a 3,400-acre estate stretching from Koloa to ‘Ele’ele, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. (NASDAQ: ALEX).
