Canoe races to Hanalei
Namolokama Canoe Club is sponsoring an OC1 canoe race on Sunday.
The course will be set from Kalihiwai to Hanalei Bay. All one and two man paddlers are welcome to race. Entry fees will cover a shirt, ono lunch and awards which will follow at the Pavilion in Hanalei. Registration is at 10 a.m. at Kalihiwai.
Race start time is 11a.m.
Hanalei Bay to Kalihiwai and Back
Six man canoes from around the island will be racing this long distance race on June 11.
Niumalu Canoe Club welcomes you to come on out and enjoy a day at the beach or in the canoe. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m.
Festivities, awards and lunch will be served at the Hanalei Pavilion after the race.
Junior lifeguard program
Beginning June 16 is Pat Durkin’s Junior Lifeguard Program for ages 8 to 15.
The course teaches personal safety at the beach and pool, rescue techniques using modern lifeguard equipment, swimming rescues and tows, recognizing hazardous ocean conditions, aquatic first aid, and marine ecology. Beach flags, run-swim-paddle and surfboard races round out the activities. The 20-hour course meets Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon on the north shore. The cost is $150.

Comets defeat Na Wahine
KILAUEA — In a girls 12 and under community basketball contest on Wednesday night in Kilauea, the Lihue Comets edged the Na Wahine 21-14.
Sanoe Keliinoe scored eight points for the Comets while Jazelle Balilea added 10 for the Na Wahine.
Justin Ramos poured in 24 points as the Lihue On Fire took a 54-32 decision over the Eastside Warriors in a boys 12 and under game.
Silas Tacsiat scored 15 for the Warriors.
In a boys 14 and under game, the Kapaa Warriors edged Wailua 28-21 with Eiljah Phillips totaling 13 points for the Warriors while Halem Medina scored five for Wailua.
