A Kalaheo man was arrested Wednesday on federal narcotics and firearm possession violations, stemming from an October 2002 methamphetamine case handled by Kaua‘i Police Department’s Vice Narcotics officers.
Raymond Reyes, 50, of Kalaheo, was arrested at a Waimea residence at about 12:35 p.m. by federal Drug Enforcement Agency Task Force officers and agents.
The federal charges resulted from the KPD arrest made Oct. 16, 2002, when KPD patrol officers responded to an anonymous complaint that a man was selling drugs from a parked vehicle at Kikialoa Boat Harbor in Waimea. Police found Reyes with methamphetamine and a firearm in his vehicle. The case was reviewed by federal authorities in Honolulu and Reyes was subsequently indicted on federal charges, according to information from the County of Kaua‘i Public Information Office.
Reyes was transported to the federal detention center in Honolulu and will appear in federal court today.
He was indicted Dec. 16, 2002 in Fifth Circuit Court in Lihu‘e on charges of first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug; use of or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; and wrongful place to keep a pistol or revolver. To forward the methamphetamine charge, under state law Reyes had to be in possession of at least one ounce of the drug, or was selling it in quantities of at least one-eighth ounce.
Since his arrest last year, Reyes did not appear several times in Fifth Circuit Court, was subsequently arrested for contempt of court, and was released on bail bonds pending hearings in his case.
