MANA – It’s time to hit the race tracks for a little fourth of July action.
The Garden Island Racing Association presents the 30th annual Kaua’i Independence Day Races with two nights of NHRA championship drag racing.
The event will run beginning on Friday and again on Saturday at the Kaua’i Raceway Park in Mana.
The best cars and drivers from Kaua’i will compete with competitors from O’ahu and Mau’i for over $5,000 in prizes and awards.
The track will open at noon and qualifying for all classes begins at 1 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
Elimination rounds start at 6 p.m. and racing will continue until midnight on both days.
Friday and Saturday night’s events will include racing open to all street-legal cars and licensed drivers in two classes: Street ET, sponsored by PSD Napa, and Super Street ET, sponsored by King Auto Center.
Both nights of racing will include classes for Pro ET and Saturday night’s racing will feature Quick Eight ET race cars.
Two of the fastest race cars in Hawaii will compete in 220 MPH runs for “Top Gun” honors while attempting to set a new Kaua’i Raceway Park track record.
Additional events on Friday night will include racing for eight to 15-year olds in the Jr. ET division.
Saturday night’s racing will conclude with ET bracket competition for NHRA’s “King of the Track” between the four class winners and include a presentation of a special NHRA “Wally” trophy.
The focus of this weekend’s racing will be providing safe, sanctioned competition to encourage safe racing, not street racing.
