A 2003 Mazda pickup is to be given away at a drawing held at the end of this year’s Veterans Day Parade set for November 8 in Kapaa.
According to Ed Kawamura, who was on hand with veterans from the 100th Battalion on Saturday at the Wal Mart parking lot, proceeds from this annual fundraiser goes towards helping maintain the Kauai Veterans Center on Kapule Highway, in hosting workshops for letting veterans know about their benefits in and helping maintain the Veterans Museum located inside the Kauai Veterans Center.
Kawamura said that he would like to one day have all services for veterans situated so they could do everything in a single stop, a dream that requires the possible acquisition of a parcel adjacent to the current veterans center.
The veterans will be on hand at this year’s Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair during the Labor Day weekend, but Kawamura said, will primarily be located at the Wal-Mart parking lot during the weekends, and possibly holidays.
In addition to the pickup grand prize, there are a host of other prizes that donors become eligible for, and for those looking for the sure thing, a souvenier pin is also available from the veterans honoring those who paid the ultimate price for freedom.
Interested donors may also visit Kawamura at M. Kawamura Farm Enterprises to make contributions.
Myles Shibata was the lucky winner of the Chevrolet pickup that was last year’s giveaway.
