O‘AHU — Hawaiian Airlines and America West Airlines announced Thursday the two carriers have enhanced their code share partnership, allowing Hawaiian to virtually expand its route system from Hawai‘i to 53 cities nationwide.
Customers will earn frequent flyer miles for qualifying fares and redeem mileage awards on both carriers.
Hawaiian’s customers now enjoy the convenience of receiving boarding passes for both airlines upon check-in from any airport in Hawai‘i, along with seamless customer service on connecting flights to cities served by America West, such as Boston, Denver, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York, Reno, Orlando, and Washington D.C- (see list below).
Hawaiian is able to offer this enhanced service as a result of its nonstop, daily flights between Honolulu and Phoenix, a major hub for America West. Hawaiian is the only carrier providing scheduled nonstop service between Hawai‘i and Phoenix.
In addition, Hawaiian will soon be offering connections to transcontinental flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco. America West is introducing new service connecting Los Angeles – New York (October 26)-, Los Angeles – Boston (October 26); San Francisco – New York (December 19); and San Francisco – Boston (March 1, 2004).
“Now you can book Hawaiian throughout the country, with one-stop check-in and full HawaiianMiles frequent flyer benefits,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and chief Qperating officer. “And the best part is, the America West standard of hospitality will make our customers feel right at home.
“We’ve enjoyed a great relationship with Hawaiian Airlines during the past year, so we’re happy to expand the reach of this agreement to give their customers access to our extensive route system in the 48 contiguous states,” said Dion Flannery, America West’s vice president of scheduling, route planning and Internet distribution. “And we’re pleased to offer our customers the ability to book through our convention and meeting services (CAMS) as well.”
America West’s CAMS program offers special discounts and flexibility for groups planning meetings or conventions in Hawai‘i.
The carriers will continue to allow members of Hawaiian’s HawaiianNfiles and America West’s FlightFund frequent flyer programs to claim mileage credits and redeem them for use as travel awards across the carriers’ respective route systems.
Hawaiian’s customers can book connecting flights on both carriers via the airline’s Web site at HawaiianAir.com, as long as reservations are made at least 14 days before departure to allow for mailing of tickets. Reservations can also be made by calling Hawaiian Airlines toll-free at 1-800-367-5320, or through any professional travel agent. HawaiianNfiles members can book their travel by calling toll-free at 1-877-426-4537.
America West customers may book flights to Hawai‘i by calling 1-800-2-FLY-AWA (1-800-235-9292) and 1-800-363-2592 for conventions and meetings.
Hawaiian and America West have been operating a code share agreement since October 11, 2002, when Hawaiian launched daily, nonstop service between Honolulu and Phoenix.
Prior to its new expansion, the code sharing relationship allowed only America West to book travel and offer frequent flyer benefits to and throughout Hawai‘i via Hawaiian’s nonstop PhoenixHonolulu service and network of interisland connections.
Code sharing allows an airline to sell seats on another carrier by attaching its two-letter booking code to the other carrier’s flights listed in worldwide computer reservations systems.
