HANAPEPE – You could tell that a big game was going on at the Hanapepe Ballpark yesterday around noon because the seats were filled with rowdy fans, along with a blaring stereo to the tune of “Let’s get ready to rumble,” and when it was all said and done, the Kalawai Cardinals rose out of the hot sun with the win and first-place honors, 10-6 over a tough Kekaha Angels squad.
The Cardinals were led by Mikeo Rita, who started the game as the pitcher for his team and also came up big at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Dallas Correa and Steve Perreira both got an RBI for Kalawai.
Caleb Licke’s squeeze bunt allowed two runner’s to score in a key play of the game.
Chyson Gois closed the game out for the Cardinals and added a hit.
For the Angels, Alika Emayo, Kaimana Perreira-Alquiza, Kaimana Jose, Kaeia Daligdig, Brigg Perreira, and Dallas Brun all pitched in with a hit.
In the early game, Treston Nakashima of the Waimea Blue Jays hit an inside-the-park-HR to lead his team to a 17-7 win over the Koloa Athletics.
Nakashima also performed well on the mound, as he shared pitching duties with Austin Parinas. Brian Ceballos led the Blue Jay bats with a double and two RBI. Tanner Fernandez also added two RBI.
Garret Cadient-Gushiken, Tauina Tafiti, and Kamalei Kahale each had two hits for Koloa. Tafiti knocked-in two RBI for the Athletics.
The third game of the afternoon came out to be the closest, as the Hanapepe Cubs edged the Kalawai Yankees, 5-4.
