The UPS Store, formerly known as Mailboxes, Etc., opens July 14 at Kukui Grove Shopping Center. The UPS Store plans to be a one-stop shop for shipping, postal and business services, but mailboxes are still part of the product mix.
“We are in the business of saving people time, and with shipping prices direct from UPS, we can save them money as well,” said Bill Heil, co-owner of the store with his wife Roberta. Store hours will be 8 am to 6 pm, M-Sat. There are 8 stores on Oahu and a new store opening in Kona.
The Heils came from Denver, Colorado, where they lived for over two years. Prior to that, they lived in Overland Park, Kansas for 20 years. Bill worked in international telecommunications with Sprint and Qwest, and Roberta owned various business-consulting and meeting-management companies.

Jenny Fujita, partner in Fujita & Miura Public Relations, has been appointed as Kaua‘i’s representative on the State of Hawai‘i Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) Cable Advisory Committee by Governor Linda Lingle. She attended her first Cable Advisory Committee meeting on Oahu last week.
The DCCA Cable Advisory Committee includes representatives from all Hawai‘i counties, and will provide DCCA with input on its draft plan for Public, Education, and Government (PEG) Access policies including the provision of additional funding to underserved areas.
Prior to co-founding Fujita & Miura Public Relations in 2000, she served as the Public Information Officer for the County of Kaua‘i. Also, she handled PR for Kaua‘i Electric for more than seven years.
Fujita resides in Kalaheo with her husband, Chris, and their daughter, La‘akea.
Top counselor
Nancy Matsuda was recently honored by the Hawaii School Counselor Association (HSCA) as the 2004 Counselor of the Year. Matsuda began her career 35 years ago as an English teacher at Kapaa High School before becoming a counselor at Waimea High School. A graduate of Kaua‘i High School, Matsuda received her BA from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Married to Bobby Matsuda for over 25 years, the couple has two daughters, Tandy and Marissa.
“First, I need to credit my family for being patient and understanding about the late night calls from troubled youth and sometimes from parents, too, and for sharing our home with students who sometimes need a temporary safe haven,” she said.
Other awards were given to Sandra Keawe, retired principal at Red Hill Elementary School, for Counselor Advocate of the Year; and Brian Matsushige, counselor at Mililani Mauka Elementary School, for Elementary School Counselor of the Year.
