KAPA‘A — Kapa‘a High School head coach Ed Phillips felt as if it was deja vu once again after almost losing another close one to Westside, but his Kapa‘a Warriors 19-and-under squad managed to hang on for a 36-35 on Saturday at Kapa‘a Gym.
Mike Lindsey led the Warriors with nine points. Westside used 17 points from Brendan McDaniels, who had the hot hand all game long.
Another heart stopper followed the first game, as Unlimited Construction (Lee) fell to Lihu‘e (Medina), 33-31.
The game between the two east side squads was neck and neck throughout the entire contest, but Lihu‘e (Medina) was able to pull away towards the end.
Unlimited Construction (Lee) were led by Aukai Dennis, who put up 14 points. Dennis utilized his quickness with driving lay-ups and key jumpers to keep his team close.
Lihu‘e (Medina) got balance scoring from Bryson Semana and Koa Navarro, who each netted nine points for their squad.
Even the third game provided an edge of your seat type of atmosphere, as Zoom Zoom cruised past Kalaheo, 52-51.
Ryan Cram grabbed the spotlight and ran with it, by finding the bottom of the bucket, more than anyone else on the court. Cram slammed in a game-high, 19 points.
For Kalaheo, Tab “No door mat” Matsumoto led the way with 14 points. Matsumoto motored his way through the game with timely shooting and quick drives to supply his team with fuel that almost got them the “W.”
