William H. Nesbit
William H. (Billy) Nesbit passed away at his residence on Jan. 31, 2005, surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Billy was born in Muskegon, Mich., and grew up in Montague, Mich., and the White Lake area, graduating from Montague High School and then attending Muskegon Community College and Michigan State University. Following school, he joined his father in business, but was drafted shortly thereafter, serving two years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska, being honorably discharged in July of 1961.
After leaving the service and bitter cold of Alaska, Billy soon decided to make his home in Southern California, and later migrated to the San Francisco area, where he became affiliated with a prominent real estate company, eventually becoming the President and CEO.
After 20 years, he left San Francisco to begin another adventure, living in London and then Egypt, after which he returned to the USA and soon was back in his hometown of Montague, now in the hotel business.
After the passing of his parents, Taft and Edith, he began to dream of a return to the warmth of the West, eventually deciding to retire on his beloved island of Kaua‘i.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents in 1996 and 1997 respectively, and brother Edward (Cheryl) of Toledo, Ohio in 1989. He is survived by brother David (Helena) of Connecticut; nephews David (Amy and children) of Whitehall, Mich., and Scott (Bonnie & children) of Muskegon, Mich., and Steven (Toledo, Ohio).
Billy’s positive spirit and personality were renowned, accounting for his many lifelong and loving friends from his Michigan beginnings, California, Hawai‘i and reaching far beyond as well. His retirement years on Kaua‘i reunited Billy with a number of close friends from his years on the west coast and many vacations to the island, including Rick Ryan, his closest and caring friend of many years.
Special thanks is given by brother David to the staff and volunteers of Kauai Hospice, all the other loving caregivers, and the many devoted and dear friends who provided Bill and David with support in his last days.
