KALAHEO — Wailua’s Kaira Kupihea scored a game-high 28 points as the girls in green surged past the Westside Hornets 35-19, Monday.
Kupihea was held to just 8 points in the first half before exploding in the second half at the county’s 12 and Under girls basketball games played at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Following Kupihea, Makamae Higa added four, Brienne Saiki finished with a trey, with Kamalei Higa and Pristian Fejeder each adding a pair.
Rea Acorda notched four of her game-total 6 points in the first half for the Hornets. Cheyenne Duarte added four in the effort.
Hayley Uliana paced Island Schools with 4 points in two periods as the girls in blue chipped out an 8-3 lead over Kaulupono Girls in the night-cap.
But, the Waimea squad answered in the third period as Vakeesha Lagazo and Cassandra Owens nailed 4 points apiece to take a 10-8 halftime lead.
The Kaulupono Girls went on to take the contest 35-16 behind 16 points chalked up by Lagazo, and 6 points by Owens.
Rosalleah Palma and Brandee Victorino each contributed 4 points. Searra Kaohi, Bronte Acosta, and Sanoe Kaohelaulii each had pairs in the win.
Uliana finished with 8 points to lead the Island School effort with Hartley Dabin adding four, and pairs from Melissa Seymour and Chelsea Chock rounding out the math.
Kupihea finished with 8 points and Kamalei Higa added four as Wailua got past the Lihu’e Kamakaze 23-17 in games played Saturday at Kalaheo.
Makana Fujimoto and Lacey Lucas led the Lihu’e effort with six and four points respectively. Bristy Agu finished with 8 points, and Jazzelyn Bradbury added six as Waimea sailed past Ha’aheo 26-9 in the second Saturday contest.
Michaela Rapozo topped the Ha’aheo effort with 5 points with Megan Wong and Malu Vegas each adding a pair.
Over at the Raiderdome, Keoni Kiezie had 14 points and John Das added a dozen as Eastside overpowered the Gee Unit B 52-20 in the boys 12 and Under games.
Rajan Baliaris topped the Unit B scoring with 10 points.
Joe Duronslet finished with 16 points and Bradly Heiser added 9 points as the Gee Unit A smothered the Kaua’i Fire Raiders 41-18.
Kasen Delos Reyes and Jensen Koga fueled the Raiders with six and five points respectively.
