Hawaiian Telcom officials in a press release said they want everyone to help the environment and help students at Kaua’i schools who are participating in the company’s telephone-book-recycling contest.
Students at the following schools are participating, and welcome old phone books for recycling: Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle, Puhi; Eleele; Kalaheo; Kapa’a Elementary; Kapa’a Middle; Kapa’a High School; Kaua’i High, Lihu’e; Kekaha; King Kaumuali’i Elementary, Hanama’ulu; Koloa; Kula Elementary, Kilauea; Na Kamalei, Kilauea; St. Catherine, Kapa’a; St. Theresa’s, Kekaha; Waimea Canyon; and Wilcox, Lihu’e.
The contest is on through March 17. Students are competing for cash prizes and Big Save gift certificates.
Students at all schools who collect at least 1,000 pounds of phone books, excluding those ending in first, second or third place in the contest, will receive $100.
