In light of the recent devastation brought to the state of Hawaii by severe rain storms and flooding, recording artist and kumu hula Keali’i Reichel and Borders Books & Music, are reaching out to help those affected.
A fundraising campaign kicked off Wednesday that donates $5 of all sales from Keali‘i’s first album, “Kawaipunahele” directly to the Hawaii Chapter of the Red Cross for flood relief and other disasters.
Punahele Records and Borders are offering the CD at $9.99, which means 50 percent of the retail price directly benefits the fund-raiser.
The greatest damage from the storms occurred here on Kauai after the Kaloko reservoir breached, spilling 300 million gallons of water. The torrential rains and flooding have inflicted damage to approximately 137 homes on Oahu in the past three weeks as well. The Hawaii Chapter of the Red Cross has responded by opening evacuation shelters, providing food and clothing to those who are displaced.
To help reach the goal of raising $50,000 for the Hawaii Chapter of the Red Cross, Keali’i Richel’s CD, “Kawaipunahele,” can be purchased at the Lihu‘e Borders.
