Senior Softball heads to Wailua tomorrow
Kaua’i’s Senior Softball League sparks up at the Wailua Houselots Ballpark, tomorrow (weather permitting), for another set of contests.
So far this season, new and old faces have risen to the top to lead their respective teams.
West Kaua’i is led by the slick fielding and clutch hitting of Richard Carveiro, who cracked two crucial hits last Saturday in a win over Kuku’s Aces. Junior Ruiz and Pancho DeCosta lead the Aces.
The Lihu’e A’s, who are always a strong state contender, is paced by Peter Rayno, who always seems to find a way to collect a timely hit or even make the big play on the defensive end.
Damien Victorino and Les Kubo head up the East Kaua’i charge.
The A’s continued their hot streak with a convincing 14-2 victory over East Kaua’i last weekend.
Stan Dela Cruz and Archie Fontanilla have kept the Rookies in the race, with power hitting and steady gloves.
Meanwhile, K-Makule, who defeated Kawaihau last Saturday, is led by Gordon Arakaki and Doric Remata.

Carillo’s the lone Kaua’i athlete on UH list
Kapa’a’s Sharlene Carillo was one of 166 UH student-athletes who achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better (4.0 scale) during the Fall 2005 semester.
Carillo, a member of the UH women’s cross country/track and field teams, is the only Kaua’i-born athlete to earn such honors.
Many of the student-athletes will be honored at the Scholar-Athlete Breakfast on April 25 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Pitch, hit, and run like the pros
The Kaua’i Police Activities League (K-PAL) and the Lihu’e Baseball League are presenting the 3rd Annual Pitch, Hit, and Run competition on March 18 (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) at the Lihu’e Baseball Park (main diamond).
There’s no cost to enter and all boys and girls between 7-14 years old are invited to attend.
Just bring a copy of your birth certificate and your parent’s consent and signature to compete.

Calling all women’s golfers
The Mokihana Club of Kaua’i is pleased to announce that its 4th Annual Women’s Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, April 22.
The event will take place at the Mokihana Golf Course at the Kaua’i Lagoons with an 8 a.m. shotgun start (registration at 7 a.m.).
The entrance fee of $65 includes lunch and prizes for all participants, as well as prizes for the first and second place teams. Whether you are a handicapped golfer or just play golf for fun, this scramble is for you. Put together a team of four or come join a team.
The scramble is a benefit for the club’s nursing scholarship program, which has donated $17,000 to aspiring student nurses on Kaua’i.
