Lady Kaipuwai Ululani Kekua
Lady Kaipuwai Ululani Kekua died on April 23, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 65.
Born on August 28, 1940, at Kahuku, O‘ahu, she is preceded in death by her hulu makua, Peter William Kaninauali‘i Kekua, Helen Kaipuwai Kekua Waiau and Edgar Miki Waiau, along with her kaikunane, Peter Kapuhilani Kekua and William Keao Kekua.
She was employed as a school bus driver for Yamaguchi Bus Service, as well as a tour driver for Grayline Kaua‘i for many years. She later retired from the County of Kaua‘i as a driver for the Kaua‘i Bus. After retirement she was an active participant of the Wilcox Adult Day Care Program in Lihu‘e. From early childhood, she was raised in hula. As a former professional hula dancer, she had a special passion for Hawaiian music, dance and culture. Affectionately called, “Aunty Lady” she was also the highly respected Hulu Kupuna for Halau Palaihiwa O Kaipuwai of Waipouli n a traditional hula school founded in 1945 by her mother, kumu hula, Helen Kaipuwai Kekua Waiau. Today, the halau continues under the direction of her eldest daughter, Kehaulani Kekua.
Lady Kaipuwai Ululani Kekua is survived by ‘eha mau Kaikamahine: Kehaulani Kekua, Kawehilani Mahi, Noewehikehauokalani Mahi, and Keali‘iwahine‘opu‘ulani Booth Kekua, all of Anahola; na Alohiki: Glenn Higa Sr. and Mike Booth, both of Anahola, na Kama Kane Hanai: Hubert “Boy” Kekua of Kahuku, O‘ahu, Tyron Carvalho and Aikane Alapa‘i of Anahola; and Keiki Ho‘okama, Lynna Batangan of Hanama‘ulu. She was also blessed with ‘umikumaha mau Mo‘opuna: Heu‘ionalani Chiyoko Mahi-Higa, Dustin Kalani Keali‘ikaimalie Mahi, Glenn Kelena Higa Jr., Justin Keali‘ikane Kekua (Keiki Hanai Ho‘ohiki), Miki Kawaiikaika Higa, Tyrus Kekaulike Higa, Tabitha Kau‘ionalani Booth, Jorel Lawelawe Booth, Rylan-James Kaimanaokalewa Higa, Kamaleionalani Shaedyn Higa, Makamaeonalani Shaelyn Higa, Michael ‘Alohikea Booth, Cyrus Kia‘iponookalani Higa and Cameron Keali‘ihakunuiokamokuokeawe Booth, along with numerous relatives and friends.
To fulfill her wishes, a special memorial gathering celebrating her life will be held at the Kekua residence located at 3918 Mahuahua Road in Anahola. Family and friends are invited to her Anaina Ho‘olewa or funeral wake and vigil on Friday, May 12, from noon to sunset. Private cremation ceremonies will follow. ‘Alana offerings of lei, flowers, music, chants and hula are welcome. Aloha attire is suggested.

Toho Akamine
Toho Akamine of Kekaha died at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital on April 23, 2006, at the age of 88.
Born in Kekaha, on March 20, 1918, he was a retired machinist with Kekaha Sugar Company.
He is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services were private.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Lorenzo L. Lopez
Lorenzo L. Lopez of Lihu‘e, Kauai, HI died on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. at the age of 71.
Born on April 12, 1935, his passions were skin diving, fishing and bowling in Hawai‘i. A retired cook, he also served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He moved to the main land in June 83.
Lorenzo is survived by his daughter, Lori (Clifton) Batiste of Niceville, FL, his son, Lance C. Lopez, Sacramento, CA, a sister, Rita McDermott, Minn., several brothers, Frank, Eleino, Fred and Richard, all of Hawai‘i, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Hawai‘i at a later date.
Forbes S. Robertson
Forbes S. Robertson of Chesterfield, MO. and formerly of Kaua‘i, died April 20, 2006, at his home at the age of 90.
Born in New Haven, Conn., he received a bachelor’s degree from Principia College in Elsah, Il. In 1943, he married Barbara Mack of Hartford, Conn. She died in 1993. He married Joyce Wethe of Minnesota in 1998. He retired in 1978 from Principia College, where he was a professor emeritus.
He was a resident of Sun Village, Lihu‘e for quite a few years after retiring from teaching. He was also a member of Christian Science Society, Kaua‘i, serving as a reader, director and treasurer.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, daughter, Nolen Provenzano of Godfrey, MO; stepdaughter, Robin Altman of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; two sons, Bruce Robertson of McLean,Va., and James Robertson of Ballwin, MO.; two stepsons, Wallace Wethe of Burke, Va., and David Wethe of Porway, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Mark Drinkwater
Mark Edwin Drinkwater of Kaua‘i, died May 1, 2006, at the age of 43.
Born Jan. 26, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, he was a graduate of the University of Hawai‘i. He is survived by his parents: Tish and Mike Drinkwater of Dallas; brother: Mike (Camie) Drinkwater, of Dallas and sister: Debbie Coffman, of Dallas; one niece and two nephews. A private memorial service was held at sunset on Friday, May 5, on the Hanalei Pier.
