Rudy Somera
Rudy Patrick Somera of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 12, 2006, at the age of 59.
Born in Honolulu, O‘ahu, on Oct. 31, 1946, he was a truck driver/machine operator with Lihue Plantation.
He is survived by his wife, Elena Somera; daughter, Janelle “Benki” Somera of Kapa‘a; two grandchildren; sister, Claudia “Cleo” Kanai of Kaneohe; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 20 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kapa‘ia. All bikers are welcome. Mass officiated by Father William Shannon will begin at 10 a.m. followed by interment at the Lihue Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Herman Mirafuentes
Herman Padin Mirafuentes of ‘Oma‘o died at home on May 12, 2006, at the age of 85.
Born in Cebu, Philippines on May 21, 1920, he was an auto mechanic with Barbers Point Naval Base.
He is survived by his wife, Natividad Mirafuentes; son, Lloyd (Serina) Mirafuentes; seven daughters, Cathy (David) Tabares of Los Angeles, Calif., Valerie (Ricardo) Noboa of Honolulu, O‘ahu, Maxine (Charles) Roland of Montgomery, AL., Lynette (Warren) Balinong of ‘Oma‘o, Angenette Molina of ‘Oma‘o, Geri (Butch) Hicks of Ridgecrest, Calif., and Gisele (Juan) Hernandez of Los Angeles, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Tony (Elvie) Mirafuentes of Manila, Philippines; two sisters, Florence (Joe) Lee-Fuentes of Ewa Beach, O‘ahu and Teresa (Ben) Robles of Waipahu, O‘ahu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 – 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 20 at the Kings Chapel in Hanama‘ulu; service officiated by Pastor Daniel Bracken of the Kings Chapel will begin at 11 a.m.

Franklin Iwai, Sr.
Franklin Iwai, Sr. of Hanapepe, died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on May 12, 2006, at the age of 63.
Born in Hanapepe on June 2, 1942, he was a fireman with the county of Kaua‘i.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Iwai; three sons, Franklin K. Iwai of Hanapepe, Bryce Akona Iwai of Waimea and Taurus Cabbab of Honolulu; five daughters, Suzanne Sokei of Kapa‘a, Dilisa (Josh) Lagmay of Hilo, Aviance (Robby) Espino of Kaumakani, Diana (Raymond Jr.) Reyes of Hilo and Brittany Iwai; 24 grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Iwai of Kapa‘a and Rudy Iwai of Tacoma, Wash.; sister, Irene Muraoka of Hanapepe; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family at 4 p.m.; military honors at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 19 at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service at 5:15 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Robert G. Braun
Robert G. Braun of Hanama‘ulu died April 23, 2006, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, at the age of 82.
Born March 31, 1924, in Hule‘ia, he was a line construction supervisor for Kaua‘i Electric, retiring after 47 years of service.
He is survived by three children: Sharlene (Edward) Muraoka, Eric (Julie) Braun and Colin Braun; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 20 at the Kapaa Missionary Church, where a memorial service will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.. Scattering of ashes will take place at a later date.
Family members ask that casual attire be worn, and that flowers be omitted. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary staff members.
Ken Kalani Kamakea
Kenneth Kalani Kamakea of Hanama‘ulu, died at home on May 1, 2006, at the age of 52.
Born April 10, 1954, in Hilo, Hawai‘i, to the late Manerva Piltz and Samuel Kaaihue Kamakea, he was a kahuna haha and kahu, or teacher, of Native Hawaiian healing arts with many students under his guidance. He was also a master in martial arts, especially in “lua,” the Hawaiian martial arts. He is credited with healing many throughout Polynesia. Many of his knowldgeable quotes can be found in the first and second editions of “The Little Book of Aloha.”
He is survived by his brother, Jerry Kaleonani Kamakea of Hilo; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and niece Hiilei Casco of Maui and stepsons Billy and Schoban Youngbird.
Services will be held on Kaua‘i, on Monday, May 22, at Kilohana Carriage House from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Wednesday, May 24, services will be held at Kaena Point Beach Park on O‘ahu from noon to 2 p.m. On Sunday, May 28, services will be held at Kahului Community Center on Maui from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The staff of Borthwick Kauai Mortuary assisted with arrangements.
