Agnes Akaneke Permina Kualu Mahinai of Anahola died at home on Dec. 22, 2006, at the age of 77. Born in Makaweli Valley on Dec. 19, 1929, she was a Jehovah’s Witness.
Preceded in death by her husband Joseph Kaheleiki Mahinai Sr.; daughter Darleen Mapuana Clark; great-granddaughter Torrie; brothers Stanley “Lase” Yadao and William “Uncle Willie” Yadao, she is survived by one son Joseph Kaheleiki Mahinai Jr.; four daughters, Sandra (Patrick) Miulani Mahinai, B. Ku‘ulei (Richard) Mahinai-Ornellas, Laverne Kahelelani (Rudolph) Gomes and JoAnn Moanikeala Mahinai; seven grandchildren, Shannon Leina‘ala Ka‘imina‘auao, Shane Leonahenahe (Alison) Ka‘imina‘auao, Kanoe Kaheleiki Ka‘imina‘auao, Willy Kahikiokalani (Shellsie) Marshall, Bridget Kuuipo Marshall, Russandra Punawai (Ronald) Marshall and Dylan Huaka‘i Gomes; 16 great-grandchildren, Austyn-Shayne, Lemeki, Taisamasama, Ka‘anoi, Ka‘iini, Rajan, Mikela-Kalae, Breann, Malie, Kamaehu, Ha‘aheo, Keahiwai, Kawailehua, Tiara, Kaimana and Kekoa; sisters Helen Lahapa Kualu Dotimas, Peke Niniau Kauwiki Kualu Doronio, Bernice Naleiekoluokananiokauai Kualu Ragragola, Grace “Nene” Hislop and Evelyn “Kanae” (Valeriano) Olores; brothers Stanywick (Marie) Yadao and Wesley (Karen) Yadao; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses-Anahola, with services beginning at 2 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Washington Villanueva
Washington “Simeon” Villanueva of ‘Ele‘ele died Dec. 25, 2006, at the age of 82.
Born Feb. 22, 1924, in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he retired as a heavy equipment operator for McBryde Sugar Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cresalina Villanueva; brother Fidelino Villanueva; and sister Benita Aguinaldo.
He is survived by daughter Crestine (Steve) Hauser of Long Beach, Calif.; sons Wilber (Christine) Villanueva of ‘Ele‘ele and Henry (Carol) Villanueva of Los Angeles; grandsons Gunnar Hauser and Logan Villanueva; brother Corazon (Fe) Villanueva of ‘Ele‘ele; and sisters Susana Llamas of the Philippines, Consolacion (Jaeme) Santos of the Philippines and Innocencia (Esteban) Agbayani of the Philippines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where services will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Flora Cadiz Adaoag
Flora Adaoag of Puhi died at home on Dec. 27, 2006, at the age of 71. Born on April 24, 1935, on Cadaratan, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a retired harvester for Kilauea Agronomics.
Preceded in death by her late husband Pedro Acoba Adaoag and sister Sergia Cadiz Cabatan, she is survived by her daughter, Colette (David) Nagao of Puhi; three step-daughters, Lolita (Wayne) Edgar of Juneau, Alaska, Carolyn (Richard) Muraoka of Kalaheo and Katherine Adaoag of Puhi; one step-son, Chrisanto (Elena) Adaoag of Honolulu; two sisters, Rosita Cadiz Bolosan of the Philippines and Lorenza Cadiz Bolosan of Honolulu; three brothers, Juan (Linda) Cadiz of Puhi, Menancio (Florentina) Cadiz of Puhi and Alfredo (Marilyn) Cadiz of Honolulu; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6 at the Aloha Church in Lihu‘e across from Taco Bell, where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow in Lihue Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Manuel Garcia
Manuel Garcia Jr. of Lihu‘e died at home on Dec. 27, 2006, at the age of 78.
Born in Hanama‘ulu on June 9, 1928, he worked at Tip Top Café as a delivery person, Kauai Resort as purchaser and finally retired with Kaua‘i Community College as grounds maintenance.
He is survived by his wife Sumie Garcia; son, Alan (Charlene) Garcia of Lihu‘e; grandson, Michael Scott Garcia, who is attending college in Las Vegas; and sister Alice Garcia of Hanama‘ulu.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
